Newport Drama is ready to present their rendition of the Laramie Project! Tickets are $6 with ASB and $8 without. Please note that there is strong profanity and mature themes of death and segregation and is not suitable for younger audiences. Tickets are extremely limited and are also available online. Shows are on April 20th 21st, 27th, and 28th at 7:00pm with a 2:00 pm show on the 28th. Hope to see you there!
A special reading of the famous one act Bang Bang Your Dead will be read on April 25th at 7:00 pm in the Newport Theatre. This show follows the mind of a school shooter and will be read by many theatre members, staff, and members of the Black Student Union. Admission is free and please note that there will be limited seating and uncomfortable subject matter. There will also be a talk, discussing school shootings afterwards.

Registration for Cheer and Drill tryouts are open in Family ID.
- There will be a Cheer informational meeting on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 7 pm in Lecture Hall 2201. Tryouts will be Tuesday, April 24th to Friday, April 27th, 6 to 8 pm in the main gym.
- There will be a Dance & Drill informational meeting on April 26th at 6:30 in Lecture Hall 2201. Dance and Drill Tryouts are April 30th – May 4th
Seniors – did you order graduation announcement or other items from Josten’s? Josten’s will be at NHS in the commons after school on Wednesday, April 18th to distribute those items. Bring your ID. Caps & gowns will be distributed in June.
Seniors – Senior Music Auditions will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd at 2:00pm. This is your last opportunity to showcase your musical talents as a Newport High School student. Pick up an application in the main office. Applications are due to Mrs. Anderson in the main office by Friday, April 27th, 3:30 pm.
The Art Department would like to formally invite you to the first Annual Newport “Taste of the Arts” an art show that samples visual art creations, jazz music, video production and culinary delights from your very own Newport Artists. While you are here you will also have a chance to vote for your favorite faculty work from the teacher show in the balcony area. The show will take place Wednesday April 18th from 6-7pm right here in the Newport Commons. Come and enjoy the art enrichment and support your Newport artists.

Dr. Michele Zhang from Valley Medical Center is coming to speak to anyone interested in attending on Thursday, April 19th in the lecture hall from 3:30-4:30. Do not miss this unique opportunity! SPED Family Night – Parent & Student Panels: Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Interlake HS – 5:30pm. Parents and students speak about their pathway to success and the next phase. Every summer WANIC offers the WANIC Summer Skills Academy, which runs from June 26 – July 13 from 8 am – 3 pm each day, except July 4. Various programs are offered throughout Bellevue School District, Lake Washington School District, and other districts in the surrounding area. Enrollment will open on April 13 through April 22 and the classes fill up quickly. All registration goes through the WANIC Consortium, NOT Bellevue School District. High School Summer Program – for students entering grades 9-12 next fall – Sammamish High School, July 10 – August 3, 2018: This program is an opportunity for students to recover credit for classes previously taken in which they failed to receive credit. Students may also take a course for grade improvement if the student previously received credit for a class but did not receive a satisfactory grade. Health is available for original credit. The Boys and Girls Club offers a free ongoing academic support program for students who are struggling with their grades. Students check in with a mentor once a week during the school day at Newport High School and come up with a plan for how to bring their grades up. Each week the mentor conducts grade checks and works with students to set goals. Interested? Get a Hot Breakfast Every Morning at Newport – Remember that our cafeteria serves hot breakfast every morning starting at 8 AM for a small fee paid with your district lunch account. Students using the free and reduced-price meal program can use that for breakfast. An Express Lunch is offered on Wednesday during the nutritional break at 11:35 AM.
