This Week’s Student Events and Activities

There is a Badminton Pre-Season Meeting today, Wednesday, February 26th at 1:15pm in the Lecture Hall.


On Thursday, February 27th, Newport will be having our Lunch-Based Elective Fair for our students. We will have normal Thursday Block Schedule.


The Newport Library will be closed this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during lunch.


Phantom Lake Elementary needs volunteers for their Science Fair on Thursday, April 2nd from 5:30-8pm! Volunteers will be helping at Science Fair vendor booths helping with fun and interactive activities with our elementary students & families. Please contact Carrie Lascano at to sign up to volunteer!


The Newport Boys Soccer Program tryouts are Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday March 2nd, 3rd & 4th from 3:45pm-6:30pm at Newport Stadium.  Tryouts are counted as the first three (3) practices toward the required ten (10) to play in games.  Students/parents should sign up now through Final Forms.  All forms/signatures complete by student and parent, along with a player physical on file is required to tryout/practice.  Impact testing is occurring this week in room 2407 on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 4pm-5pm.  If a player for some reason misses impact testing this week, they can still attend tryouts and we will get their testing done next week.  The Boys Soccer Program is holding their last open field session on Saturday, February 29th from 10:00am-11:30am at Newport Stadium.  All students interested in trying out for the boys’ soccer program should attend.


First Day of Practice for ALL Spring Sports is Monday, March 2, 2020. Spring Sports Night for Parents and Athletes is Thursday, March 5th, 7pm, in the Main Gym.


Volunteer for the annual Knights of Pi Math Competition on March 7th. Be a part of this fun and competitive middle school math competition to earn volunteer hours. For more information, go to www.newport


The BOOM and SHOUT Experience Conferences are happening on March 24th and 26th! These conferences are designed for students that racially identify as African, Black, Hispanic, LatinX, Native American, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander or mix of any. This program provides an opportunity for students to connect, be inspired, find support and to be led and taught by people who also racially identify like them. Students will spend the day learning and engaging in discussion around race, culture, leadership and self-empowerment.

General Information

The Attendance Office has a new check in kiosk!  Always have your ASB card with you or use the Synergy app on your phone and pull up your ID card located in the bottom right corner. You can also log in using the same log in as your BSD student computer. Thank you for your patience with this new system.


If you are interested in competition science and you want to learn about a variety of advanced STEM topics, join Science Olympiad Club. We meet every Tuesday at 3:30pm in room 1404.


Parking Ticket Dispute Hours: Mr. Spichak will hold office hours Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday after school from 3:10PM to 3:45PM; Wednesday mornings from 7:30AM till 7:50AM, as well as after school from 1:00PM till 1:20PM. His office is in the library, left-hand side, L#3.


Newport Music Creators Club is now every Thursday in room 1233, 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Come and join us if you are interested in in making music and having a place to share.


Each of our middle schools are looking for high school students to volunteer as camp counselors for 6th Grade Outdoor Education Camp. By volunteering, high school students can earn up to 50 community service hours. But more importantly, they will be looked to as a guide, friend, example, advisor, and a source of inspiration.

In order to be considered for a camp counselor position applicant should:

  • Be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade (11th or 12th grade only for Newport High School)
  • Be a student in good standing (2.5 GPA, no failing classes, on track to graduate)
  • Have been consistently on time to school and classes
  • Have no prior discipline issues
  • Please note – high schoolers may only serve on one camp
  • Apply Online in the BSD Student Portal (link).

Peer Tutors Wanted for all levels of math & science. Peer tutors receive community service hours for their assistance. Students who want to be a Peer Tutor can sign up in the Main Office.
