How to get students into athletics and activities?

The best place to help your student get started with activities is their Link Crew Leader. These upperclassmen have volunteered to help freshmen get settled in at Newport. Assist your student to draft an email to their Link Crew Leader to ask them for help in finding a good fit. If they don’t know who that is, you can contact our Link Crew teachers Jake Nonis or Tara Knudsen.

The second place to look is on our website where both clubs and teams are listed. You will find there the contact information for leaders, coaches, and advisors for each group. You will also find athletics schedules, registration, and contact information for Athletics & Activities Supervisor Jesse Snyder.

Our third suggestion is that you help your student contact the leader of a club that interests them (see the club listings above). That’s where your student can learn about opportunities to listen in on a meeting or ask questions about the group. This suggestion offers a great opportunity for your student to begin developing the self-advocacy tools we so strongly recommend. You can help your student by planning out a script or crafting an email to contact the student leader.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
