“It is with mixed emotions that I share a shift in my administrative assignment for the next school year.  Newport has been my home for the past 3 years, and with any home, it has been filled with so many experiences, joys, challenges, and learnings. While I am sad to leave Newport, I am excited my request to shift to the Elementary world next year was honored, and will be joining Somerset Elementary as the Assistant Principal. Though I have spent my professional life at the secondary level, my first interest in education occurred in working with elementary-age students. In the shift to elementary, I will have the opportunity to help students develop the social emotional and academic foundations that will prepare them to grow through high school and beyond. With two elementary students of my own at home, the shift to elementary makes sense.

Thank you for the past three years.  I plan on staying connected as a spectator or visitor celebrating accomplishments of this wonderful community.”

Leif Moe-Lobeda (He/Him), Assistant Principal

“Sixteen years ago I took a leap of faith and transplanted myself from Colorado to Seattle and began my career at Newport.  I couldn’t have imagined then how the following years would unfold and carry me through service as a teacher and administrator at this amazing school.  Since starting a family of my own, my time at home has become more and more important and caused me to reflect on where I want to serve as an administrator in Bellevue.  As such, I requested a transfer to a middle school which was recently granted.  I will say farewell to Newport at the end of this school year and begin my next chapter as an assistant principal at Odle Middle School.  Working at Newport has truly been the gift of a lifetime.  Thank you for your partnership and friendship over the last 16 years in the service of our students.  I am forever grateful.”

Fondly, Keith Altenhof, Assistant Principal

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to join you all at Newport next year. I have spent the last 8 years working in the Lake Washington School District – 6 years as a Spanish teacher at Eastlake High School and the last 2 as the Dean of Students at Eastlake and now Redmond High School. I believe that equitable and exceptional schools are an essential part of a community, so I love partnering with teachers, students, and families to create opportunities for all students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Newport High School has a long history of excellence, and I can’t wait to be a member of the Newport family.”

In appreciation, Devin Barrett (New Assistant Principal in August)

“I am extremely excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve your school community. I look forward to meeting everyone and learning how we can improve your experience together at Newport. I focus on creating academic success for students and combining that with excellent extra-curricular program experiences. I want to help each student be their best selves and leave Newport High with options after graduation. I made a move from Oklahoma to the State of Washington 6 years ago and landed at Hazen High School. I have served Hazen High School in two administrative capacities, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. Prior to moving from Oklahoma, I taught Biology and Physical Science for 12 years. I can’t wait to meet you all!”
