SENIOR AWARDS

SENIOR ASSEMBLY in PAC

• Students & Staff ONLY event (due to COVID space restrictions)
• 10:30am
• MANDATORY Rehearsal for graduation
• Describe for students where on the venue floor individual students will be seated so that families can choose an open seating position with a good view.

TICKET PICKUP

• 1-4pm at Newport High School
• Students need their student ID either Synergy on their phone or the card that was issued.

FINDING YOUR SEAT IN THE ARENA

• Talk to  your students about which side of the arena they will be seated on (we tell them at rehearsal Wednesday).
• Arena seating is not reserved.
• Use this diagram to help you identify where you might get the best vantage point to see your students and watch them cross the stage:
  • Students exit their row to the outside
  • Use the stairs on their side of the stage
  • Cross to accept congratulations from special guests
  • Exit the stage in the center front
  • Walk down the center aisle

Thursday, 6/16–Graduation Day!

Cap & Gown

• Gown
  • Graduates wear only gown and commemorative stole, along with items provided by Newport High School and/or Bellevue School District:
    • AP Cape/Honor Cord,
    • ISA Cord, and
    • Knight Valor pin.
  • Recommend shirts with collars and pants/skirts.
  • No flip flops/caution on high heels – many steps on smooth concrete
  • Due to life threatening allergies of some students, we ask that you adorn the gown with leis and other items only after the ceremony for family pictures, etc.
• Cap
  • • Students may decorate their cap, but not expected or required. All general school guidelines apply.
    • Appropriate cap decorations:
      • An image or item of personal or cultural significance
      • Thank a parent, grandparent, teacher, or friend
      • Recognize the university you will attend
      • The branch of military you will be joining
    • Graduation Cap Restrictions
      • Only flat, top area of the cap may be decorated. No items or decorations hanging off the cap.
      • Decorations must be flat; 3-D creations prohibited.
      • Decorations cannot include blinking lights or moving parts (nothing battery operated).
      • Decorations cannot include anything that will make noise (no bells, whistles, etc)
      • Additionally, decorations must not:
        • Include obscene, profane, or lewd language or images
        • State or imply intimidation, discrimination, or ridicule based on a legally protected status such as race, religion, ancestry, national
          origin, socio-economic status, gender, sexual orientation, including gender expression or identity, mental or physical disability, or other
          distinguishing characteristics.
        • Contain any symbols, advertisements, initials, abbreviations, words, slogans, patches or pictures that refer to drugs or controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, weapons or be of a sexual nature.
        • Denote an affiliation with gangs or groups that advocate drug use, violence, illegal activity, or any disruptive behavior that is detrimental to the safety and welfare of other students.
        • Threaten the safety or welfare of any person

Students Arrive EARLY at UW Alaska Airlines Arena

• 8:15 am–Only students can enter the Arena at this time.
• Families are welcome to park and stay in the area. Doors open at 8:30am.
• Students SHOULD NOT BRING any personal belongings. Leave everything with  your family or guests (e.g., coat or other garments, water bottles, yearbooks, balloons, flowers, cards, etc.)
• Graduates should enter the lower level of the arena near Husky Stadium (watch for signs directing graduates down the ramp on the south side of the arena).
• Water dispensers and cups will be available on the lower level for graduates.

Parking

• Handicap parking is available in lot E-18.  The location  in the lot is 123182 or 123183.
• There also are drop-off points out of the traffic close the arena and out of traffic. Please look at the Campus Map below so you have an idea where to look for them.
• Regular parking is available in various places, but the most convenient is lot E-18 (which doesn’t seem to have an address, but it is immediately past Crag’s Climbing Center at 3950 Montlake Blvd NE, Seattle).
• Parking is Pay-in-Advance through a phone app, website, or telephone call.
• The E-18 lot is located just north of the Alaska Airlines Arena on Montlake Blvd NE. View the Campus Map.
• Lot E-18 is a self-serve pay by phone lot. The charge is a flat $12.00 per day.
• Families must pay for parking using the Pay by Phone Parking App (available on Google Play Store, the iOS App store or the Windows store), visiting the Pay by Phone website www.paybyphone.com or by calling 1-888-680-7275.

• Other lots in the vicinity charge an hourly rate of $4.00/hour. These lots are noted on the UW parking map.

Tickets

• Tickets are FREE this year and still required to enter Alaska Airlines Arena.
• Seating is NOT reserved.
• Each family will receive ten (10) tickets.
• For additional tickets, you may work with other families who don’t need all ten (10) tickets. Or, contact [email protected]. She has a limited number that families have turned in.
• Students pick up their tickets at the end of the day Wednesday, between 1pm and 4pm.
  • Students can wait out the line on campus.
  • Students can leave and come back before 4pm.
• Before picking up tickets, student must have the following:
  • All credits completed.
  • All fines and fees must be cleared
  • Attended graduation rehearsal

Graduation begins

• Doors open at 8:30am
• Ceremony begins at 9:00 am
• Guests & families should enter on the North and South side of the arena.
• Seating is NOT reserved. Sit where you will have a good view of your senior.
• Review these restrictions on belongings that you are NOT ALLOWED in the Arena.
  • Balloons will be held at the entrance for pick up after the ceremony.
  • Sealed (unopened) water bottles are allowed. Empty reusable bottles are allowed. Water fountains are available on the arena concourse.
  • Prohibited items include
    • firearms, weapons,
    • alcohol,
    • balloons (balloons will be held at the entrance for recovery after the ceremony)
    • noise makers and
    • open drink containers (water bottles*, etc.)
• The Graduation Ceremony lasts approximately 90 minutes.
• Hearing devices will be available for pick up in front of the Hall of Fame on the concourse. There are ample hearing devices and no need to reserve a device.
• Ushers will be stationed on the concourse. Please ask an usher for assistance locating available ADA seating and restrooms.
• Professional Photo Available
  • Grad Images will take a candid photograph.
  • They will take a photo of every graduate as they cross the stage, as well as other photos during the ceremony.
  • You will receive a free passport-sized digital proof of this photo 5-7 days following the ceremony.
  • The photo email will come to the address your student submitted on the name card they submitted before May 30.
  • You can search for your student’s photo on the Grad Images website.
  • You may save 20% if you preregister at www.gradimages.com/Registration

Free or Family Time

• Student’s time is their own from the end of the ceremony until GradKnight pickup (if a ticket was purchased in advance).

Diploma Pickup

• Diplomas, awards, and certificates will be available for pick up at NHS in the Outer Gym,
  • Thursday, June 16 – 2PM to 8PM &
  • Monday, June 20 – 8AM to 3PM
• Diplomas will NOT be mailed home.

• Email & Teams will be closed during the last week of June.
• OneDrive & OneNote will remain available to them for 90 days from June 15.

PTSA GradKnight

• Pickup at 7:15-7:30 pm
• Buses depart Newport at 8 PM  We cannot accommodate late arrivals.
• DO NOT bring personal belongings. The following items WILL NOT be allowed on the bus:
  • PHONE!
  • purse
  • backpack
  • tote
  • plastic or paper bag
  • beverage container of ANY kind
• All students must be dropped off at NHS staff parking lot (back parking lot between the baseball and football fields) between 7:15 PM-7:30 PM
• Per BSD policy, no overnight parking – vehicles may not park at the school.
• Pick up is Friday, June 17, between 5:30 AM-5:45 AM
  • Chartered Bus should arrive back at Newport (back parking lot) between 5:30 AM – 5:45 AM
  • Do not park in the bus loop or along the football field lane– save for the buses
