Frequently Asked Questions
What has changed with the program?
1. Algebra 1 will no longer be offered during the Accelerated Middle School Math Summer Program
Beginning Summer 2019, Algebra 1 will no longer be offered through the BSD Accelerated Middle School Math Summer Program. For those students who are ready to accelerate, learning experiences outside of the Bellevue School District are available through online providers. The option of taking an online course provides families and students more flexibility, in that the course can be accessed at any point in time. Authorization to take a learning experience outside of BSD is required. Visit the Revised Outside Learning Credit Procedure page to learn more.
Summer courses that will be offered for math acceleration will include Integrated Math Topics 1 (IMT1 and GIMT1) and Integrated Math Topics 2 (IMT2 and GIMT2). Because the content of these courses is unique to the Bellevue School District, students will continue to have the option of enrolling during the summer. There are no online courses equivalent to IMT1 and IMT2.
2. A lottery will be implemented prior to enrollment for Accelerated Middle School Math Summer Program Courses
Bellevue School District believes in providing all students a fair opportunity to enroll in summer Accelerated Math courses. Because of the popularity of the summer math courses and the limited availability of qualified teachers, we are not always able to meet the enrollment demand. To provide all interested students an opportunity to enroll, BSD will utilize a lottery approach to fill summer IMT1, GMIT1, IMT2 and GIMT2 courses. The window of time for parents to apply for the lottery will begin on March 27, and will close on April 16, 2019. Once the window closes, the lottery will take place. Following the lottery, parents will be informed about enrollment status.
Where do I sign up for up for the lottery?
The application will be on the district website: http://www.bsd405.org/summer-programs
Can I apply multiple times to the same program to improve our chances in the lottery?
Any student with multiple applications to the same program will have all submissions discarded and will be removed from the application process.
What is the lottery timeframe?
- Wednesday, March 27: Parents can sign up for the Accelerated Middle School Math Summer Program lottery (IMT1, IMT2, GIMT1 or GIMT2)
- Tuesday, April 16: The lottery sign-up period will close
- Wednesday, April 17: The lottery will occur
How will we be notified of the results of the lottery?
Parents will be notified by email if their child has been selected for a space in the class or if the child has been placed on a waitlist. If you have a space, you will have 72 hours (3 days) to enroll and pay tuition for the assigned math course.
My child has been selected for a space, how can I be sure Summer Programs received our enrollment application?
Once you submit your enrollment application, you will receive an email confirming that it was received. This email will be sent to the email address you provided on the application.
What if I did not receive an email confirming our enrollment application?
If you do not receive the confirmation email, please check your spam and junk boxes before contacting us.
What will happen if my child was selected for a space but we miss the 72 hour (3 days) deadline to enroll?
In the event that your child is not enrolled, and tuition is not paid by the deadline, your child will be added to the bottom of the waitlist.
