Reminder of No Halloween Costumes: As in previous years, we ask that students not wear costumes to school for Halloween due to the potential for disruptions and distractions during the school day. We hope you are able to attend the PTA Pumpkin Bash from 6:30-8:00 on October 26, and look forward to themed spirit weeks this school year where students will be able to dress up!

Puesta del Sol thanks you for your service!
Great ShakeOut: On Thursday, October 18 at 10:18 AM, Puesta del Sol joined the rest of the state in the Great ShakeOut, where all students and staff practiced DROP, COVER, HOLD for over a minute, in addition to teachers presenting important information on earthquake awareness and safety. We invite you to talk as a family about earthquake preparedness. Here is a website with great resources for families: https://www.mil.wa.gov/preparedness.
Disability Awareness Month: Did you know that October is Disability Awareness Month? The goal is to create understanding, acceptance and equity of opportunity. At Puesta del Sol, we presented Disability Awareness Month at our October 17 Virtues Assemblies, and have incorporated daily announcements to increase student understanding of the importance of disability awareness. Thanksgiving Support for Families: For the past 10 years, the Families helping Families Thanksgiving Food Drive has been steadfastly dedicated to providing meals for local families. They provide a full traditional Thanksgiving meal for the family to enjoy. If your family is experiencing economic hardship and would like to receive a traditional Thanksgiving Meal, please complete the application form (link below – hard copies available in the Main Office).
School Board Announces New Time for Public Comments: You asked, they listened! At the October 16 board meeting, the board approved amending Policy 1400: Meeting Conduct, Order of Business, Quorum and Public Comment, which impacts the time when public comments will be held at board meetings.
We heard from our students, families, and community partners that due to work, after school, or other commitments it is difficult to make it to board meetings by 4:00 PM to share feedback, concerns, or appreciation during the public comment period.
Going forward, at the first board meeting each month, public comment will begin at approximately 6:00 PM or later. The public comments section will continue to be at about 4:05 PM for the second monthly board meeting. The change is effective immediately, and will be noted in upcoming board meeting reminders.
Puesta del Sol Visitor & Parent Guidelines: Below is a linked attachment to an important addition to our Community Handbook. In collaboration with the school district and Puesta del Sol PTA leadership, we have updated essential communication and visitation guidelines. For each Noticias we will spotlight a section within the new guidelines:
Addressing Questions and Resolving Concerns
At Puesta del Sol, as in the Bellevue School District, we pride ourselves in a culture of service. We understand that questions and concerns may occasionally surface related to school operations, classroom practices or the overall instructional program. Please note:
- Addressing questions and resolving concerns is important to our staff.
- In accordance with Bellevue School District Procedure 4220P: Complaints Concerning Staff and Programs (Click here), remember to initiate communication with the individual directly responsible for the program, event, action or decision. For example, if you have a question or concern regarding a classroom procedure, contact the teacher directly to seek clarification and resolution, rather than contacting the building administrator.
When working through a question, concern, or informal complaint, we ask that you follow the following from District Procedure 4220P:
- Begin the conversation with the acknowledgement that each is operating with the best of intentions.
- Work collaboratively to understand the other’s point of view.
- Work to resolve the concern through conversation before initiating a formal complaint.
If you feel the concern or informal complaint has not been resolved, you may initiate the formal complaint process as detailed in Procedure 4220P: Complaints Concerning Staff and Programs (Click here).
Panorama Student Survey: This fall we will be doing the Panorama student perception survey to collect information on school climate and to provide teachers with feedback from students. The survey is run through Panorama Education (http://www.panoramaed.com) and is given to all students in grades 3-12 in the district. This is the fifth year we are doing the survey.
The purpose of the survey is to help increase student voice in our district. It gives us an indication of where our strengths are and where we can do better. Here is some additional information about the survey:
- The survey is confidential. Staff will not see how an individual student answers a survey.
- It takes students about 15-20 minutes to complete the survey.
- Students fill out a section on school climate, and then fill out a teacher survey for their teacher.
- The survey will be given in class between now and November 8.
- Results will be out in mid-November. Teacher-level reports are only be available to the individual teachers themselves. Principals and district staff will receive summary data for schools and the district as a whole.
