Signs of Suicide (SOS) Parent Discussion Session:  Due to overwhelming community request, the Family Engagement office in partnership with BSD Counseling, Mental Health Assistance Teams and community mental-health partners will offer families an additional opportunity to support the well-being of their students. This in-person Community Mental Health Forum will center on a discussion about the Signs of Suicide, or SOS.

SOS is an evidence-based youth suicide prevention program that teaches students how to identify signs of depression and suicide in themselves and others. The goal of the program is to decrease suicide and suicide attempts by increasing knowledge and changing attitudes about depression, suicide, and mental health. In addition, SOS provides materials that support families and communities to recognize at-risk students and take appropriate action.

This important community session will take place on Wednesday, December 8, starting at 6:00 PM. Due to space capacity, families will be required to pre-register for the event.

In compliance with COVID-protocols, in-person attendance will be limited, and registration required. We request families to register early. This session will provide families an opportunity to ask detailed questions about depression, suicide, and mental health directly with district counselors. Please follow the links to register and submit questions.

Session Time: 6:00pm-7:30pm Session Registration: Registration Link: https://forms.office.com/r/riFA29dmFt  (Please use the pull-down selection menu – located on the upper right corner of the form – to view the registration form in Spanish or Simplified Chinese).

November is Native American Heritage Month: Puesta del Sol is honoring this important month. We encourage you to inquire with your student what they are learning from classroom lessons, our monthly assembly, as well as daily announcements. There are numerous ways for families to engage in honoring Native American Heritage Month and we invite all Puesta del Sol families to engage in acts of developing awareness and honoring the history, heritage and land rights of Native Americans.

Picture Retakes/Make-ups is Thursday, November 12: Please inquire with your teacher or the main office if you have any questions.

COVID Diagnostic and Screening Testing: Puesta del Sol has begun providing COVID diagnostic testing for individuals who have symptoms of or have been exposed to COVID-19. We also plan to begin screening testing starting Wednesday, November 17, as a proactive approach to minimizing the potential for outbreaks in our schools. To learn more about this and to provide consent if you wish your student to participate, click here.

Support this Holiday Season: For those needing additional help this holiday season, the Puesta del Sol Beloved Familia is once again coming together to offer support. Support is available for all children of the household, including needs like clothing or shoes, or wishes like toys, books, arts and crafts, etc. Please know that this is confidential—names will not be shared. We are a Beloved Familia here support one another!

Participate in the Bellevue Thanksgiving Food Drive:  Each year, Families Helping Families organizes a food drive to support Bellevue School District families by providing them with Thanksgiving meals. Consider participating by making a donation. Every school that donates $600 or more will receive a special gift for their teachers. Please include your school’s name with any donations.

Gifts for Staff:  Each year as the holidays approach, we see thoughtful parents and community members who want to express their appreciation to Puesta del Sol teachers and staff for their work with gifts. As a friendly reminder, Board Policy 5255 requires that any gifts be of nominal value, or no more than $25.

If families wish to provide more than a gift of nominal value, they can make donations to a specific classroom with the understanding that this donation would belong to the school, make a donation to a school or program, make a contribution to the Bellevue Schools Foundation, the PTA, or other charity in recognition of an employee’s work, or do something that will benefit the entire staff/school.
