Paid Career Training Opportunity
Are you interested in a career after high school where you work with your hands? Perhaps as an electrician, plumber, laborer, welder, in a construction career, or tapping into the many opportunities in the Energy, Marine or Aerospace Manufacturing fields? AND how about getting paid while you learn your trade?
On Wednesday, May 2nd Scott Sanchez and Billy Hetherington from Laborers Local 242, will be at Sammamish during lunch and after-school in the College and Career Center to provide information on the benefits of Trade Apprenticeships, and how to get signed-up to do one.
Any questions, please contact Ms. Scott in the College & Career Center.
$1,000 Scholarship
The Scholarship, funded by Suzy Mygatt Wakefield, awards four (2 male/2 female) scholarships to Sammamish High School students who share qualities of her friend and unofficial ‘Mayor of Crossroads,’ Nan Campbell.
Unlike many scholarships, the Nan Campbell award is not dependent upon test scores and GPA. Suzy admires students who have overcome adversity, who may be the first in their family to attend college, and for whom the $1,000 award will make a tangible impact on their ability to pursue post-secondary education.
The application deadline is midnight, Friday, May 18th. Finalist interviews will be held the week of May 28th and recipients announced the week of June 4th.
Contact Ms. Scott in the College & Career Center for additional information.

Earth Day to Bike Day Challenge
Spring has Sprung! It’s perfect weather to ride bikes to school – so we encourage you to choose a day between Earth Day (April 23) and Bike Everywhere Day (May 18) to do just that! If you don’t have access to a bike, try walking, ride the Metro, or carpool with a friend. To track your trip, you will receive a flyer to draw a scene depicting the trip, or you could take some pictures on the way, write a story about it, or even record sounds heard on the trip. Use your imagination! Prizes will be given as well as rewards to Sammamish from the City of Bellevue to put towards a school project. Sunny days for biking to you!
Do you want to learn how to fix and maintain a bike?
Do you want to earn your own bike? Come to WheelLab at the Lake Hills Teen Center and you can build your own bike in an 8-week program. Attendance is mandatory. The program is on Thursdays from 4:15-5:45pm starting April 19th and going until June 14th. Contact Rachel Brown at rbrown@bgcbellevue.org or stop by room 211 if you are interested.
The Truth About Mental Health
Do you want to help create a positive and accepting environment surrounding mental health here at our school? “The Truth about Mental Health” project is doing just that for our school and we need everyone’s help. Go to the vending machines by the cafeteria to contribute to this. Write or draw your story or experience with mental health. Our goal is to have every single person write their truth about mental health and then we will accomplish two things. One, we will normalize talking about mental health and two make everyone realize that no one is alone and everyone is going through something together.
Attention Seniors
If you did not pick up your graduation items from Jostens on Friday, please stop by the Main Office to get them.
Attention Current Sophomores and Juniors!
