Word of the Day

Cumbersome – slow and complicated, inefficient

Be a Totem Pride Leader

Hey Totems! Do you love Sammamish? Do you want to welcome next year’s freshmen?

We are looking for next year’s Totem Pride leaders. These leaders are currently sophomores or juniors who serve as positive role models for other SHS students, particularly the incoming freshmen. Totem Pride leaders run freshmen orientation before school starts and help support the freshmen class throughout the year.

If you are interested in applying, pick up an application from Ms. Goodrich (Room 315) or Ms. Rosenberg (Room 328) before/after school this week! Applications are due Friday May 3rd!

Know Your Rights Workshop

On April 25th, at 7 pm, Sammamish High School SOAR and Latino HEAT will be hosting a Know Your Rights workshop in the SHS Library. This workshop will help inform Bellevue community member and their families about their rights in interactions with immigration and law enforcement. Please join us to learn more about your rights and/or how to be an ally! Refreshments and childcare will be provided.

APRIL 29th – MAY 3rd

(See attached form for details: Information Packet & Application)

It’s very easy to be the person that just talks about the change they want to see made at their school. Why not be one of the people that can make those changes???

When you are elected to class officer, you have the ability to possibly make the changes that you talk about or desire. You get to have a strong voice in the activities that your class partakes in, the way those events are ran, the way that your class raises money, and in the organization of some of the dances at the school.

If you are interested in running for one of your Class Officer positions, please review the attached application.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Grigsby or Mr. Newton. Thank you!

College Visits During April

This is a great way to learn about the many schools out there. Plus, the college representative visiting is likely the person assigned to this area, so if you decide to apply, this may be the person who would be reading your application first! If you can attend, this is a terrific opportunity to meet them.

The following schools are visiting in April:

Tuesday, April 23 at 3:00               Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona (Please note: this is the school I used as the example for the WUE program during the presentation – Google WUE if you don’t remember what that was – it could save you a lot of money and open up college options you didn’t know existed!)

Wednesday, April 24 at 1:00        Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon

Thursday, April 25th at 11:15        Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada (on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe)

Most visits are during a lunch or immediately after school. If you have to miss class to attend, you must have permission from the teacher of that class to do so. Bring your lunch – I don’t want you to go back to class hungry. All visits are in the College & Career Center unless otherwise noted.

Please contact Ms. Scott in the College & Career Center with any questions.

Hey totems! The Thespian Society is putting on a lip sync battle. We are looking for students who want to put together a lip sync routine. You can choreograph and perform yourself or grab a group of friends! The battle will take place on May 24th in the PAC, and will have rehearsals on the 22nd and 23rd.  All routines must be fully choreographed to show the thespian society members by May 3rd. Please respond to the google doc form if you are interested in participating! If you are part of a group, only one member needs to fill out the form.  When choosing your song, please keep in mind that the song must be under 5 minutes, and it cannot contain any explicit or derogatory language. We are also looking for a couple of student judges! If you are interested in judging, please email s-farrellha@bsd405.org with a couple sentences on why you would like to judge, and if you have any kind of dance, glee, or similar experience. We hope to see you there!
