| ¡Qué dos semanas más ocupadas! Nos encantó ver a nuestras familias en la Noche de Currículo y las Conferencias. Nos emocionó ver a tantos de ustedes aquí y experimentar estar dentro de nuestra hermosa escuela y aulas. A medida que avanzamos más hacia el otoño, tenemos muchas celebraciones culturales de otoño. Presentaremos muchos de ellos en las próximas actualizaciones familiares. Por favor, hágame saber si hay una celebración cultural que sea importante para su familia. ¡Nos encantaría compartirlo con nuestra comunidad interna!
Diwali o Deepawali se está celebrando en todo el mundo y varias de nuestras familias de Bellevue. Este año Diwali es el lunes 24 de octubre. Diwali es un “festival de luces”. Este es uno de los festivales hindúes más importantes, que se celebra tanto en India como en todo el mundo. Diwali es el festival de luces de cinco días y marca el triunfo del bien sobre el mal y la luz sobre la oscuridad. Este festival se celebra con reuniones familiares, lámparas de arcilla resplandecientes, fuegos artificiales festivos, intercambio de dulces y adoración a Lakshmi (diosa de la prosperidad). Las familias preparan comidas tradicionales y decoran su casa con luces y diseños de piso llamados rangoli. Algunos van al templo a rezar con sus ropas tradicionales.
El Día de los Muertos se celebrará el martes 1 y miércoles 2 de noviembre en México y otras partes del mundo. Varias de nuestras familias de Bellevue estarán celebrando estos días. Día de los Muertos, honra a los seres queridos que fallecieron. En la cultura mexicana, las familias decoran un altar, armando una ofrenda u ofrenda con las fotos del ser querido, bocadillos y bebidas favoritas. Se cree que las almas de los familiares caídos pueden pasar al lado vivo durante la celebración. Las cempasúchil (caléndulas) son la flor de los muertos y se pueden ver en los altares y durante toda la celebración. Un símbolo icónico del Día de Muertos son las calaveras de azúcar y chocolate, que son calaveras de caramelo que se usan para adornar altares.

What a busy two weeks! We loved seeing our families for Curriculum Night and Conferences. We were thrilled to see so many of you here and experience being inside our beautiful school and classrooms. As we move more into fall, we have many fall Cultural Celebrations. We will feature many of them throughout the next few family updates. Diwali or Deepawali is being celebrated around the world and several of our Bellevue families. This year Diwali is on Monday, October 24th. Diwali is a “festival of lights”. This is one of the most important Hindu festivals, celebrated both in India and around the world. Diwali is the five-day festival of lights and marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. This festival is celebrated with family gatherings, glittering clay lamps, festive fireworks, sharing of sweets, and worship to Lakshmi (goddess of prosperity). Families prepare traditional meals and decorate their house with lights and floor designs called rangoli. Some go to the temple to pray in their traditional clothes. Día de los Muertos OR Day of the Dead will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 1st and Wednesday, November 2nd in Mexico and other parts of the world. A number of our Bellevue families will be celebrating on these days. Día de los Muertos, honors loved ones who passed away. In Mexican culture, families decorate an altar, setting up an ofrenda or offering with the loved one’s photos, favorite snacks and drinks. It’s believed the souls of the fallen family members can come over to the living side during the celebration. Cempasúchil (marigolds) are the flower of the dead and they can be seen on altars and throughout the celebration. An iconic symbol of Day of the Dead is sugar and chocolate skulls, which are candy skulls used to adorn altars. |

| Solo un recordatorio, como comunidad escolar, no celebramos Halloween en Stevenson, por lo que los estudiantes no deben usar disfraces en la escuela en Halloween. En su lugar, honramos la diversidad de celebraciones comunitarias y de otoño que están presentes en nuestra comunidad. Muchos salones de clases honrarán todas las celebraciones de temporada de otoño a través de historias, debates y celebraciones. También honramos la diversión y la alegría al celebrar la Semana del Espíritu como escuela.

Just a reminder, as a school community, we do not celebrate Halloween at Stevenson, so students should not wear costumes to school on Halloween. Instead, we honor the many diverse community and fall celebrations that are present in our community. Many classrooms will honor all of the seasonal fall celebrations through stories, discussions, and celebrations. We also honor the fun and joy by celebrating Spirit Week as a school.
Spirit Week is NEXT WEEK, October 24-28 and we encourage our entire school community to participate! Please see the attachment for the fun themes each day next week!

| Pudimos participar en el Great Shake Out, el 20 de octubre, que es un día nacional para crear conciencia sobre la preparación para terremotos. Por la mañana, repasaremos la importancia de estar preparados para un terremoto al compartir con los estudiantes qué esperar durante un terremoto real y luego pediremos a todos que practiquen AGÁRRESE, CÚBRASE y SOSTENGA. Continúe la conversación en casa con su familia para que estemos preparados para terremotos, cuando y donde quiera que ocurra un terremoto. | We were able to participate in the Great Shake Out, on October 20th, which is a national day to bring awareness to earthquake preparedness. In the morning, we will review the importance of being earthquake ready by sharing with students what to expect during an actual earthquake and then prompt everyone to practice DROP, COVER and HOLD. Please continue the conversation at home with your family so we are earthquake ready, whenever, and where ever an earthquake will occur.

| Sabemos que celebraciones como una fiesta de cumpleaños es emocionante para los niños. Al planificar la celebración de su hijo, sea sensible a los sentimientos de los niños invitados o no invitados. Si está enviando invitaciones a través de su hijo en la escuela, considere invitar a toda la clase. Si no puede invitar a toda la clase, haga que su hijo reparta las invitaciones de otra manera o, al menos, después de la escuela. When planning your child’s celebration, please be sensitive to the feelings of the children invited or not invited. If you are sending out invitations though your child at school, please consider inviting the whole class. If you are unable to invite the whole class, please have your child pass out invitations in another way or at the very least, after school. Passing out invitations during the school day can be distracting to students, create feelings of being excluded, or jealousy among students. Feelings that no one wants associated with your child’s celebration. Thank you very much! |
