| Dear Superstar Families,
The year is in full swing and welcome the first few official days of Fall. The weather is slowly changing and we are excited to welcome some crisper fall weather and the beginning of the leaves changing. Even though it’s only the third week of school, our students walk through the hallways like they’ve been back for months. Your superstars have been simply amazing these past few weeks, and we are so proud of how they have jumped right into the routines of learning, play, and connection! As part of our back-to-school routines, all of the students participated in “Superstar Space Walks” through the school to visit different locations like the cafeteria and playground to learn about how to demonstrate the Superstar Four – Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Productive. The students and staff talked about ways to act out the Superstar Four and learned from all the staff at school about being a superstar in every location at our school. Your students did an amazing job learning about the different school locations and once every class finishes their “Space Walks,” they get a bonus recess! It continues to be an amazing start to the 23-24 school year. Your children are joyful, inquisitive, and love learning! We hope you have a great weekend ahead and can’t wait to see them on Monday.

El año está en pleno apogeo y damos la bienvenida a los primeros días oficiales del otoño. El clima está cambiando lentamente y estamos emocionados de darle la bienvenida a un clima otoñal más fresco y al comienzo del cambio de hojas. Aunque solo es la tercera semana de clases, nuestros estudiantes caminan por los pasillos como si hubieran regresado durante meses. ¡Tus superestrellas han sido simplemente increíbles estas últimas semanas y estamos muy orgullosos de cómo se han lanzado directamente a las rutinas de aprendizaje, juego y conexión! Como parte de nuestras rutinas de regreso a clases, todos los estudiantes participaron en “Superstar Space Walks” a través de la escuela para visitar diferentes lugares como la cafetería y el patio de recreo para aprender cómo demostrar las Superstar Four: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Sea responsable, sea productivo. Los estudiantes y el personal hablaron sobre formas de representar a las Superestrellas Cuatro y aprendieron de todo el personal de la escuela cómo ser una superestrella en cada lugar de nuestra escuela. | Please join us for Curriculum Night on Wednesday, October 4th from 5:30-7:00. The evening begins in the Café at 5:30 for a whole group session followed by two sessions each of which is 25 minutes in duration. For each of these, you are welcome to attend classroom sessions and/or the specialist session. During the classroom session you will learn about classroom expectations, key topics and strategies to support your child. Teachers will run back-to-back identical sessions, so families who have more than one student at Stevenson, can join more than one classroom session. During the specialist’s session you will learn about the specialist classes your child attends; art, library, computer science, music and physical education (PE). There will also be a resource fair going on during the duration of the event with local community organizations as well as our PTA, Family Connections Center, Bellevue LifeSpring and the community HUB.

Únase a nosotros para la Noche de Currículo el miércoles 4 de octubre de 5:30 a 7:00. La velada comienza en el Café a las 5:30 con una sesión de grupo completo seguida de dos sesiones de 25 minutos de duración cada una. Para cada uno de estos, puede asistir a sesiones presenciales y/o a sesiones de especialistas. | Over the past two weeks, the Jewish community celebrated two important holidays – Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur: The name “Rosh Hashanah” means, literally, “head of the year” or “first of the year.” Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. On Rosh Hashanah, Jewish people connect with family and focus on ways to be better in the upcoming year. Jewish people celebrate the new year by eating big family meals, refraining from work, and blowing a large ram’s horn called a Shofar. Another popular observance during this holiday is eating apples dipped in honey, a symbol of our wish for a sweet new year as well as the practice of “Tashlikh” (“casting off”). Families walk to flowing water, such as a creek or river, and throw bread crumbs or pebbles, symbolically casting off all of the bad things that have happened in the past year. Yom Kippur—the Day of Atonement—is considered the most important holiday in the Jewish faith. This is a time of introspection that follows Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

Durante las últimas dos semanas, la comunidad judía celebró dos fiestas importantes: Rosh Hashaná y Yom Kipur: El nombre “Rosh Hashaná” significa, literalmente, “cabeza del año” o “primero del año”. Rosh Hashaná es comúnmente conocido como el Año Nuevo judío. En Rosh Hashaná, los judíos se conectan con la familia y se enfocan en formas de ser mejores en el próximo año. Los judíos celebran el año nuevo comiendo grandes comidas familiares, absteniéndose del trabajo y tocando un gran cuerno de carnero llamado Shofar. | It is National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month! National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. At Stevenson, we are proud to be a Spanish Dual Language School and honor this important month in our Dual Language classrooms and across our school. Please see reflections from each of our Dual Language classrooms as well as our schoolwide events for all students:
The Dual Language Teaching Team is planning two assemblies and an evening event with music, food, games, activities) to celebrate Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month. We plan to introduce a door decoration contest celebrating the Latinx/Hispanic heritage. Kindergarten with Maestra Salcido: Kindergarten is reading books about Latinx children and discussing what Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month means; what it looks and sounds like. 1st grade with Maestra Romo: is reading books about Latinx children and discussing what Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month means. 2nd grade with Maestra Salgado: Students are writing biographies about Latinx people in partnerships; they are partnering to make posters about the person. We are reading books about Latinx people and discussing why they are well known. 3rd grade with Maestra Galaviz: Reading a daily book about Latinx people and children. Damaris and Salgado will combine classes and students will partner to make posters about Latinx people to hang up in the school. 4th grade with Sr. Magaña: Magana is reading books with the entire fourth grade and team teaching a Latinx theme/characters. Students are supported with English/Spanish vocabulary to bridge DL learning. Sr. Magaña is also reading a book aloud about Latinas, “En Mis Propias Palabras.” He adds one saying from each Latina from the book. 5th grade with Sr. Thienel: Dr. G. has a PowerPoint that he plays 2 songs daily in Spanish from each two of the 23 Spanish-speaking countries. The students decide which song of the two they think is best and he has a bracket posted on the wall of how the songs are advancing to the Final. Dr. G is also reading aloud from Epic in English about Latinx/Hispanic Month. Annual Schoolwide Celebration: Hispanic Heritage Month Read-In: We are excited to share books from Hispanic culture, written by Hispanic authors, and/or drawn by Hispanic illustrators. Two surprise readers will visit classrooms on Wednesday, September 27th from 8:15-9:00 AM. When your student gets home on Wednesday afternoon, please ask them about the Read-In event in their classes. |

Estamos leyendo libros sobre personas latinas y discutiendo por qué son tan conocidos. 3er grado con Maestra Galaviz: Lectura de un libro diario sobre personas y niños latinos. Damaris y Salgado combinarán clases y los estudiantes se asociarán para hacer carteles sobre personas latinas para colgar en la escuela. 4to grado con el Sr. Magaña: Magana está leyendo libros con todo el cuarto grado y el equipo enseñando un tema/personajes latinos. | Right at School offers before and after school care for kids at Stevenson at the school site. It’s wonderful to have a child care option that allows you to drop off your child at Stevenson and also pick up at Stevenson. Before school programs start at 6:30 AM. After school starts at dismissal. Parents have until 6:00 PM to pick up their kids.
