Dear Tillicum Families,

As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible support and partnership we share in fostering the growth and development of our middle school students. Your partnership in their education and well-being is truly appreciated.  In this season of gratitude, I am thankful the myriad relationships that define our school community:  students, staff, families and community partners. It truly takes a village to raise the next generation and together we create an environment where our students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Wishing you and your families a joyful Thanksgiving filled with warmth, love, and cherished moments. Thank you for being an integral part of our school comm(unity).

Bus Route 10 Cancelled Nov 20-22.  Due to driver shortages, six bus routes district wide are cancelled for the week of  Nov 20-22.  For Tillicum, route 10 is cancelled this week.  Transportation has 11 new busdrivers in training right now so the end of route cancellations is in sight.  Thank you all for your patience.    If you or someone you know is looking for work, Bellevue Schools is hiring for bus drivers ($35/hr).  Apply Here for Bus Drivers   Apply Here for Substitute Bus Drivers.

Pre Arranged School Absences.  As holidays and school breaks are fast approaching, we want to provide a reminder and guidance to families scheduling plans and travel about pre-arranging absences with our Attendance Office. Bellevue School District provides students with 5 pre-arranged absence days per school year.  These are excused and can be used for family events, travel, extracurricular events,  private school tours, etc.  Days beyond the 5-day limit are marked as “unexcused”. Unexcused absences may impact students from receiving credit for missed coursework or exams.

Please complete the pre-arranged absence form prior to the absence for it to be excused.  Students must obtain teacher and parent signatures.  After they get all teacher signatures, your student will need to turn the completed form in to the attendance office.   This form should be submitted to the attendance office at least 3 days before the planned absence so we have time to process it.  You can find more information about pre-arranged absences on this page:  https://bsd405.org/tillicum/report-an-absence.

School Funding 101 – Understanding our Money Sources. Learn more about the district’s sources of money and how we can spend them. In school districts, we have multiple buckets of funds where our money is accounted for — General Fund, Capital and Technology Fund and Building Fund. Each of these funds has designated uses and we as a district are limited in how we can transfer money between these funds based on state law.

Previous Announcements

Lost and Found.  The Lost and Found bin is overflowing with coats, hoodies, shirts, pants and the lost water bottles are multiplying daily. Please remind your student to check the lost and found for any lost items. Parents/guardians wishing to check the lost and found are welcome to stop by the office between 7:30-3:30.

Inclement Weather and Potential Closure Reminders. Winter is approaching and may bring unpredictable weather. BSD encourages families to take the time to revisit the district’s emergency closure schedule protocols and our emergency closure decision-making process. During instances of inclement weather or severe conditions that could result in a delayed or canceled school day, BSD will communicate any schedule changes to families through direct messages, including email, text message, phone call, social media, FlashAlert, local media and posts to bsd405.org. Learn how to update your contact information in ParentVUE and set message preferences in SchoolMessenger to receive inclement weather and emergency communications according to your desired methods. While these decisions are made for the district at large, conditions may vary across the district. We encourage families to make personal decisions based on their specific circumstances.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
