From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Tyee Families,

I have spent a significant amount of time in reflection these past few weeks regarding our students, families, staff, and community.  I am concerned about the future (and present) our students are facing.  They/We are bombarded with social media, including messages which are filled with volatility, disparaging comments about those with differing beliefs, and violence.  We are living in a very divided country and that divisiveness exists in our community as well.  So how do we teach our kids to be kind and compassionate human beings when it becomes increasingly more difficult to provide positive examples?  We don’t give up; that’s how we do it.  We continue to teach students to: Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Each Other, and Take Care of This Place.  These statements seem like such simple concepts, yet, they are the hardest things for people (kids and adults, alike) to do on a consistent basis.

We can’t just expect students to automatically do these things, we have to teach them.  I would like to pose a challenge to all families; at the end of each day ask your child(ren) this question:  “WHAT DID YOU DO FOR OTHERS TODAY?”  I will also challenge myself to ask this question each day on announcements.  Let’s work together, as the Tyee community, to Take Care of Each Other and support one another.

Finally, I’d like to remind you of the Tyee Mission:  We are committed to serving ALL students, cultivating a compassionate community responsible to the needs of others, and developing dispositions and skills students need to become life-long learners and thriving global citizens.

In Partnership,

Susan Thomas

Announcements

Thank you for supporting BSD levies!

From Dr. Ivan Duran:  “…I want to thank all of you for your ongoing support and trust in the Bellevue School District. Your approval of the three local levies will ensure that every Bellevue student receives an education that prepares him or her for success in college, career, and life.

As we move forward, we invite all of you to continue working with us as we build our future financial plans for the district. In April, we will launch our Finance Community Advisory Group. We will look to this group to provide feedback and input into our spending plans to ensure that we are using our funding in a way that demonstrates our financial responsibility to our students, staff, and community.  Thank you for supporting all of our students.”
