Tyee April Newsletter

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Tyee Families,

My main priority as principal of Tyee is to keep all students and staff safe.  With everything we hear and read about with school shootings and violence in general, it can be difficult to make sure we all feel safe.  As a site, we work closely with the District Safety & Security Department regarding required drills, trainings, and emergency management systems.  Each school in the District is required to conduct at least one safety related drill per calendar month while school is in session.  The required drills include fire evacuation drills, lockdown drills, earthquake drills, and a shelter-in-place drill.  Staff participates in trainings such as Active Shooter Training and Family Reunification.  In addition we have a school safety/emergency response team as well as a designated area which is filled with emergency supplies.

At Tyee we also have safety provisions such as automatic exterior door lock systems , building alarms, visitor sign-in protocols, closed campus signage, etc.  We know how important it is to visible and aware of our surroundings, and we ask staff, students, and families to be vigilant in communicating any concerns or observations they may have.  Open communication between home and school is critical to the safety and well-being of our students and your children.  Let us know if you have a concern or questions about school policies, your child’s safety, or the safety of their friends.
