The City of Bellevue wanted to share with you an update regarding the approved detour plan for the upcoming SE Newport Way Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project. Construction is expected to begin mid-April and be substantially complete by November 2020. Crews will return in 2021 to complete final paving and striping with day time lane closures.

Attached is a mailer that nearby residents will receive soon that explains the 24/7 eastbound closure of SE Newport Way. The 24/7 closure will require eastbound traffic to use Allen Road instead of Newport Way.  This detour will allow for the construction of retaining walls to be completed before the rainy season and overall get the project done sooner. The Bellevue School District Transportation Department has been notified.

While we recognize schools are closed and your priority rightly rests on communicating with families about the COVID-19 emergency, we’d appreciate your sharing the attached construction alert with faculty, parents and students to the extent possible. Also attached is a vicinity map if you would like to include it in your communications.

As you can imagine the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak brings many challenges. The City of Bellevue has determined that transportation infrastructure and safety-related projects are essential per the Governor’s recent “Stay home, stay healthy” proclamation.  Our contractors will follow appropriate COVID-19 safety practices in the performance of their work.
