Student Schedules Update

Student Schedules went “live” at 6:00pm Tuesday for viewing in StudentVue & ParentVue.  Please know the school may continue making adjustments up to and through the first few days of school while we balance out needs and large class sections.

The message below is for families of all BSD Middle & High School students.

Secondary Class Schedules Update – September 1, 2020

Dear Middle School and High School Families:

Scheduling of students into courses is mostly complete and student schedules will be accessible by ParentVue and StudentVue by 6:00 pm today, Tuesday, September 1. As you know, counselors and building administrators have been working tirelessly to ensure students are fully scheduled, class sizes are balanced, and new students are registered and scheduled. We are grateful for the efforts of building administrators, counselors, registrars and central office support staff as they work through the outstanding student schedule issues.

As has occurred in the prior years, student schedules will continue to be adjusted after the first day of school. Building master schedules for both Temporary Remote Learning and BSD Virtual environments has presented new challenges. Know we greatly appreciate your continued understanding and patience with this process.

As you know, due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns, some elective offerings have been combined while others eliminated. Therefore, some students may not see an elective they had requested in the spring, though every effort was made to schedule the student into an alternate offering or similar-type course. Our priorities are ensuring that each student will meet graduation and grade-level requirements and each student is fully scheduled.

Counseling staff and administrators will continue to facilitate schedule corrections, as necessary.  This week, schedule corrections will be limited to fixing errors, such as:

  • 8th grade student is placed in the wrong level of a math class
  • 9th grade student is missing a 5th period class in the first semester schedule

Other types of schedule change requests and changes in model requests will be considered after the Labor Day weekend, beginning September 8. Both models were built to accommodate preferences in the family surveys, and it is expected students will adhere to such, pending extenuating and/or unforeseen circumstances.

If you are not familiar with ParentVue and StudentVue, the link below provides guidance. You can access student schedules through both avenues.  https://bsd405.org/departments/district-technology/grades-attendance/

Bell Schedule Please click here  to review our bell schedule, with explanations of the settings (synchronous, asynchronous, etc). Please note new start time of 8:30am.

  • Thursday 9/3 is class periods 1-4
  • Friday 9/4 is class periods 5-7
  • Classes resume Tuesday 9/8 on “Tuesday” schedule, class periods 5-7
  • Students are not scheduled into an “8th period” class, but the time can be used for homework or other meetings.
How do students “get to class” Thursday?

Students should keep an eye on their Outlook e-mail and Teams app. Invitations will be coming from their 7 teachers to join the “class team” with information about class meetings and links to their OneNote pages.

Thursday and Friday morning, we will host a “meeting” for students to join from 8:00-8:30 if they need assistance finding their classes, and we’ll provide walkthrough demos. ALL students will be e-mailed the links to these later today, and should check their Outlook inboxes to find it!

HOW WILL STUDENTS GET TO CLASSES ON THURSDAY?

  1. Students will log in to the laptop, open Microsoft Teams.
  2. In Teams, open the calendar section and you should see invitations to classes.  Click on the link in the invitation and ‘join now’ button at the start of each class.
  3. If you do not see one of your classes in the calendar section, look on the teams list on the left of your page and select the team with the same name of your class.  Inside the class team you will see a meeting in progress, and you can click the ‘join now’ button.
  4. If you are having trouble opening programs or email on your district laptop, email [email protected] or call (425) 456-4321.
  5. If you are absent from class because you are having technical difficulties, please e-mail [email protected]
Attendance Teachers are excited to see you Thursday! Attendance will be taken daily during each of the scheduled morning “synchronous” periods (mornings).  That means students need to be logged in to TEAMS class meetings within the first 10 minutes of class.  Students are marked absent if they miss more than 25 minutes (50%) of class.  Absences may still be excused. If you know your student will be absent for a class, please e-mail: [email protected].
Need Tech Help? Tyee is unable to provide tech assistance at our school campus.  BSD has shifted “tech centers” and our technology specialists to central locations. Tyee students  should visit the Tech Center @ Newport High School (4333 Factoria Blvd). Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8am-3pm; and Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10am-5pm.
