Good Evening Tyee Families,

Welcome to the month of March. The first week back from break can always be a rocky one, so we’re hoping to see our students get their “footing” back as we continue forward.

Believe it or not, registration is already underway for next year. Students will begin registration for the 2021-22 school year in the coming weeks, making their course requests. Please see the important dates below for students and families, and pay close attention to the deadlines!

  • All students and staff will be masked at all times—except for the short time that the student removes the mask to take a picture.
  • Physical distancing will be utilized.
Tyee: AVID Information Session for Families

The AVID Program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is hosting an information session for families (link to Live Event) on Tuesday, March 2nd after school, from 5:00 – 5:30 pm, and a recording of the video will be emailed to all parents afterwards.  An email will be sent to all parents that includes additional information on AVID, and provides a link for students to apply.   We are also hosting a student information session on Tuesday, March 2nd from 11:30 am – 12:20 pm.  Both information sessions will be recorded and the link will be provided to students and parents.

Your student might benefit from an AVID class if they:

  • Have potential and willingness to be a leader
  • Want to build critical thinking skills and habits (ex. note-taking, study groups)
  • Want to build organization and time management skills (ex. using a planner, keeping track of deadlines)
  • Want to take  ownership of their learning
  • Are new to the college process in the United States (ex. no one in your family has attended college in the United States)
  • Will be the first in their family to go to college
  • Thrive in classrooms that have strong family environments

Students must apply and register for AVID to be enrolled in the course for the 2021-22 school year.  Under extenuating circumstances, we may not have enough spots for all students and we commit to an equitable process for selecting students to enroll in AVID. Thank you for your interest in the AVID program!  Jim Petoskey, AVID Site Coordinator. Contact: petoskeyj@bsd405.org

BSD: Free and Reduced-Price Lunch

Now is an Ideal Time to Sign up for Free and Reduced-Price Lunch (FRL).  If you think you might be eligible for free and reduced-price lunch, but haven’t yet signed up, here is the application:  https://bsd405.org/services/nutrition-services/free-reduced/

Why the urgency now?  There will likely be some government funds made available to families that have FRL status. If you aren’t sure if you have signed up for FRL, please call BSD’s Nutrition Services office at 425-456-4507 to confirm.

Almuerzo gratis y a precio reducido.

BSD: Family Engagement Survey The Family Engagement Office has started to conduct their annual survey to understand if families across the district feel informed, supported, and empowered to contribute to their student’s success. The survey remains open until March 30, 2021. Families should have received an email with a unique survey link from the survey platform (Panorama Education). The subject line for the email reads: “BSD Family Engagement Survey.” The survey is only 12 questions, takes 5 minutes, and available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Korean, Arabic, Amharic, Japanese and simplified Chinese. For questions please contact familypartnerships@bsd405.org.
BSD: Wellness & Resilience Group Our Mental Health Assistance and Middle School Counselor Team invite our middle school students to join us in our weekly group sessions to support you in building your resilience tool kit. Some of the topics we will be covering are: managing strong emotions, building healthy relationships, coping with stress, and more.
