Good Evening Tyee Community,

We hope our students and families had a fun, relaxing, and safe weekend. At Tyee we are absolutely thrilled with educators and school staff becoming eligible for vaccinations. Many are scheduling appointments, and a few just got their first dose!  This is a great step for the safety of our school and community, and we’re hopeful this moves us on the path to the eventual start of broad in-person learning (hybrid model) in middle schools.

More good news is that in partnership with Jubilee Reach, plans are being formed to provide in-person Athletics at Tyee and middle schools across Bellevue! More information to come in the days ahead about what will be offered, and how to register your student.

We are also in the midst of Registration Season for the 2021-22 school year. Please make special note of the timelines and resources for registering with Tyee, or one of the high schools for those moving into 9th grade.

On a personal note, my family and I are expecting a new arrival in the coming month. My wife Melissa and son Calvin (3 yrs old), look forward to a new baby coming into our world in early April. I share this so soon, since babies tend to operate on their own schedule and we never know when to expect!

If you suddenly don’t hear from me in a few days or weeks, not to worry! Tyee will continue updating families under the leadership of fantastic Assistant Principals – Jennifer Johnson & Betty Nhan. A third administrator will join in my absence to support Ms. Johnson & Ms. Nhan, and I hope to introduce them to you soon.

Newport HS:  Registration for 9th grade

As we continue the registration process, we wanted to send out a reminder that students/families should fill out BOTH the StudentVUE Course Request and the Course Selection Microsoft Form ( Future 9th Grade/Current 8th Grade Course Selection Form). The Microsoft form does require a student log in, so it is easiest done on a student computer, though could technically be done from a personal computer via Microsoft 365.  BOTH are DUE March 14th.

If you missed the presentations last week here are the links. For those who attended the Q&A and had questions unanswered, we did go back later in the evening and answered the questions, which are still available via the link. There is also a link to some of the broader unanswered questions.

For some more general information, please make sure to check out Our Registration Page, where you can find Flipgrid video description of classes, an FAQ and other resources.

Sunday, March 14: COURSE SELECTION (Both Student VUE and Form) DUE!  More Information and all links are on the NHS Registration Website: https://bsd405.org/nhs/counseling/registering-for-courses/

BSD: Free and Reduced-Price Lunch

Now is an Ideal Time to Sign up for Free and Reduced-Price Lunch (FRL).  If you think you might be eligible for free and reduced-price lunch, but haven’t yet signed up, here is the application:  https://bsd405.org/services/nutrition-services/free-reduced/   Why the urgency now?  There will likely be some government funds made available to families that have FRL status. If you aren’t sure if you have signed up for FRL, please call BSD’s Nutrition Services office at 425-456-4507 to confirm.
