Student Activities

(after school Clubs & Sports)

We are excited to announce that Tyee is hosting in-person sports, clubs, and activities again this year! Due to the high enrollment numbers for sports, we have put a temporary hold on registration for soccer, cross country, and girls golf.

We will resume registration after September 1. To register, students must email Arum Schut schuta@bsd405.org from their student account with their choice of sport, club, or activity. Unfortunately, due to high enrollment, your student will only be able to sign up for ONE sport per season.

The list of clubs and activities is still being finalized as we confirm staff advisor commitments, but we are close!

Once the remaining list of clubs and activities have been confirmed, you may find additional details and list of Tyee clubs, Jubilee Clubs, and PTSA sponsored clubs at https://bsd405.org/tyee/thunderbirds/. We will update this list weekly.

Instruction During Quarantine For students required to quarantine, BSD Teachers will follow existing practices to provide instruction and services to students under quarantine which may include, but is not limited to:

  • Small group/personalized virtual instruction
  • Independent learning and practice
  • Concurrent Instruction
  • Recorded Instruction

Depending on the subject matter and classroom activities, teachers will rely on multiple practices to engage students.

In the event a student is quarantined due to COVID-19 exposure, families should notify the attendance office.  While students are not present at the school, they are also not designated as “absent”.    The Nurse, Counselor and Assistant Principal for the student will confirm the number of days of the quarantine (and return date). The Counselor will then inform all of the Teachers, who will communicate their instruction plan on to students and families.

As quarantine is a new and unique circumstance that is a necessary mitigant to keep our school in full-time daily operation, Teachers are engaging this week and next in collaborative work to establish practices they will implement in the event one of their students is quarantined.

Quarantine is highly disruptive for a student, so we will work to ensure they are provided instructional opportunities throughout and can seamlessly return to the classroom when cleared to return. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we develop and refine this.

School Picture Day – Sept. 21 (Save the Date!) Student Picture Day is Sep 21.  Pictures are done by Life Touch and will be taken during the school day.  Flyers will be coming home by the end of next week.
Lunch Preferences We are making a few shifts in our lunch period process. While the 6 foot distancing requirement remains in place, we have monitored students in the lunchroom and specifically looked at trends and tendencies. Amongst the changes rolling out this week:

  • Better proportioned Group A & B
  • Groups of 3-4 chairs so students can sit with friends (minus the table).
  • Expanded outdoor seating (covered).

In addition to students sharing their preferences, we’d also like to ask for family preferences as well.  Please complete the brief survey linked here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=OUFKmQZ8HkmAmHkAbVdd4PljPFdjfZ1Bs9tCKQ8iw6hUMEdLS0dDUVpCR1VSU0ZVR045VlBDMVJPQi4u

Curriculum Night 2021 – Thursday, October 14

Curriculum Nights across BSD will be hosted Virtually this Fall while transmission rates are high. Tyee will feature a General Session from 6:00-6:30, and Classroom Presentations will be hosted by Teachers via a site called FlipGrid.

To assist our school and teachers in preparing information most relevant for our families, we ask you complete a very short survey to indicate what you’d like to learn more about. There is also an opportunity to offer suggestions. BSD Volunteers & Vaccination Verification

Volunteers will be required to be fully vaccinated by October 18, 2021, in accordance with Governor Inslee’s Proclamation 21-14.1.

All volunteers will check-in via LobbyGuard, the district’s electronic visitor management system. Volunteers will provide verification of vaccination (yes or no) and will also provide contact information to include phone number and e-mail to assist with any subsequent follow-up contact tracing.  School staff will visually verify vaccination status.

Approved volunteers must remain masked while indoors. Volunteers who do not provide proof of full vaccination by October 18, 2021, will not be allowed to continue to volunteer in the school setting.

All volunteers must be background checked https://bsd405.org/get-involved/volunteer/.

Visitors to BSD Schools & Vaccination Verification

Visitors to BSD schools are not required to be vaccinated at this time. However, any visitors coming to the school for a meeting with staff and/or students (and going beyond the lobby area) must check-in via LobbyGuard, the district’s electronic visitor management system, and verify their vaccination status. Visitors must remain masked while indoors, and unvaccinated visitors must maintain 6 feet of physical distancing.

If you are coming by for a short period of time and confined to the lobby area, you will not be required to sign-in via LobbyGuard. Examples of this include delivery personnel and a parent dropping of an item at the front desk.

All visitors must check in on arrival when the main office is open. . Visitors will provide verification of vaccination (yes or no) and will also provide contact information to include phone number and e-mail to assist with any subsequent follow-up contact tracing.  School staff will visually verify vaccination status (ex. vaccination card or photo of it).

At this time while transmission rates are high, we are encouraging video conference calls in lieu of in-person meetings. This is an available option if you do not wish to visit the school or complete vaccine verification.

Food/Drink Drop-Off

If your student is bringing their own lunch to school, please be sure they remember to take it with them when they come to school.  If your student forgets their lunch, all cafeteria meals are FREE of charge.

We are unable to support the current volume of mid-day lunch drop-offs/deliveries from families to students. It is unsafe to have so many more contacts. We ask that families not drop off meals at school for their student during the morning hours and only visit when it is absolutely necessary.

Student Laptop & Technology Update
  • Tech Support will be available in the Tyee MS Library during all three lunch periods. Students should stop by with any needs.
  • 6th Graders – new laptops! we will issue new laptops, power cords, stylus, and cases, to both new and returning 6th graders. Returning 6th graders will turn in their District-issued laptop, stylus, and power cord from 5th grade to Tyee on Friday, September 10. Students should continue to bring their current devices with them the first days of school.
BSD: Student Technology Use & Gaggle Monitoring

The district would like to remind all students that they are required to review the Technology Responsible Use Pledge [English][Spanish][simplified Chinese][Hindi] and then agree to honor its terms.

Additionally, the district utilizes Gaggle to monitor student communications and files. This includes emails that are sent/received to your school email address, chats in Microsoft Teams and files stored in OneDrive. This is to help provide a safer digital learning environment for each and every student, and to prevent violence and self-harm.

BSD: 2021-2022 Official Notices, Weapons Policy and Truancy Law The 2021-2022 Official Notices, Weapons Policy and Truancy Laws are available on the district website. English, Spanish and Simplified Chinese versions can be found on the Official Notices page.
BSD: Transportation

As we start this upcoming school year, students are required to wear face masks or face shields to ride the school bus. Bus drivers will carry spare masks just in case students need them.

Scan cards for students will be given out at the schools during the first week of school. Students are required to scan on and off the bus. Parents and caregivers may download the Edulog Parent Portal app on their smart phones to view the latest transportation information and receive notifications on bus routes and student ridership.

If you need assistance, please contact transportation at transportation@bsd405.org or call 425-456-4512.

BSD: Advanced Learning Testing Any parent of a BSD student in grades 2 – 4 and 6 – 11 can apply for their child to test. Applications for testing for students will be available starting September 1, 2021 at www.bsd405.org/apply-for-al. District families interested in applying for testing must submit the application before the October 29, 2021 deadline.
