Good Afternoon Tyee Families and Community!

Hope you all had a restful weekend. As we enter the new week, a few changes have taken place in response to the COVID-19 surge our community continues to experience. As always, please keep your students home from school when they are sick or experiencing symptoms, and continue to abide by quarantine/isolation guidelines as necessary. Our Teachers and Staff will continue to exercise as much flexibility as possible for our students, as we recognize missing school is very difficult for our young learners. We are seeing trends in student and staff absences decrease, which is a very good sign, but will continue to practice protocols and mitigants to keep our focus vigilant on health and safety at Tyee. Thank you for your support and care for our community through this time, your shared commitment keeps our school safely in operation every school day.

Byron Lillie, Principal

Tyee: Prioritizing Diagnostic Testing Due to the current COVID-19 surge in our region, increased demand for COVID-19 testing, and subsequent delays in test results, BSD has re-evaluated the testing program. In an effort to more quickly identify COVID-positive students and staff, we are shifting focus from pooled testing to diagnostic testing. A focus on diagnostic testing will allow us to test symptomatic individuals right away and send them home for isolation. Compared to pooled testing, this shortens the timeline for individual test results, as it bypasses the steps of conducting a pooled test, waiting for results, then conducting diagnostic tests. To opt-in or opt-out of consent for your student to participate in diagnostic testing:

Contact your student’s teacher for information on how to continue instruction during isolation or quarantine.
