Tyee: Badminton Registration 10/26 Badminton registration will begin Wednesday, October 26th. Students will be e-mailed at their student account with a registration link Wednesday morning.  Registration will close Wednesday, November 2nd at 11:59pm. Badminton Practice will begin Monday, November 14th, and meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00-4:45pm.

Students will indicate whether they are registering for competitive or recreational badminton.

  • Competitive: Students registering  will need to commit to all three days and matches will either fall on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays each week. Game day schedule will be sent to families a week after badminton begins. Competitive badminton will be lottery based due to the high volume of interest and previous badminton experience is required.
  • Recreational: does not require attendance each day (M,T,TH) but the practice schedule will be released after registration has closed once we know how many students to accommodate.

Friendly reminder, ASB membership is required for students registered for after school activities and sports and can be purchased online here https://wa-bellevue.intouchreceipting.com/. Scholarships available for those who qualify.

Students will be notified of placement on November 3rd.

Tyee: Lockdown Training & Drill on 10/28 This Friday, October 28th BSD Safety & Security will lead Tyee 1st period classes through an informational presentation on procedures to respond to incidents of an emergency nearby or on campus that would warrant a lockout or lockdown response. Following this, all students will practice a Lockdown Drill in the classroom settings.

We understand that conversations about emergencies and violence are very scary for our students, staff, and families. We also understand that we must prepare for such emergencies, and that training and drills are important components of that practice. By working together – students, staff, and families may better ensure safety on our campus. For additional information and resources, please be sure to visit the BSD Safety & Security Page.

Costumes on October 31st (Halloween) With Halloween fast approaching, please know that Bellevue School District’s Student Dress Policy 3224, https://bsd405.org/wp-content/pdf/policy/3224.pdf will remain in effect, promoting an inclusive learning environment. Students are permitted to wear costumes on October 31, and Tyee Middle School will operate as a typical school day. School Staff will regulate student dress when:

  • A health or safety hazard is presented
  • Damage to school property will result from the student’s dress, and/or
  • A material and substantial disruption of the educational process will result from the student’s dress or appearance (may exist when a student’s conduct is inconsistent with any part of the educational mission/learning of the district).

Examples of student dress that are prohibited include, but are not limited to, what is listed in Student Dress Procedure 3224P: https://bsd405.org/wp-content/pdf/policy/3224P.pdf

Given full-face masks and full-face paint pose a safety hazard and further conceal the identity of students – they are not allowed at school, including Spirit Days or Holidays.  Weapons (fake, fantasy, or real), blood & gore, or promotion of drugs/alcohol are also not permitted. Students are to refrain from dress that mocks/mimics another culture as costume.

If students are unsure whether their costume is permitted at school, they are encouraged to ASK a staff member at school before coming dressed up. Thanks in advance for your understanding, and your support for a positive school climate.

Transportation is provided for students attending clubs and activities who qualify for a bus pass.
Study Hall & Afternoon Expectations Tyee is happy to provide a 45-minute Study Hall period Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00-4:45pm. It is expected that students who attend engage in schoolwork independently or small groups, and that conversations be limited. If students are disruptive or unsafe in Study Hall, they may be referred to their Assistant Principal and/or dismissed from Study Hall. In such cases, students should report to the Main Office to use the phones to contact home to arrange transportation.

Please note there is NO Study Hall on Fridays. On Fridays, students must depart campus at Dismissal (3:25), or arrange their own transportation home after Tutorial (3:55).

Visiting Campus  Thank you families and caregivers for supporting a safe and learning-centered environment during the school day.

Some key reminders below:

  • All visitors are to check-in at the Main Office. This includes before and after school times.
  • Visitors must sign-in at the LobbyGuard vestibule, and wear a visible badge through the day.
  • If meeting with a Teacher, an appointment is required. Please e-mail the Teacher to arrange the appointment date/time.
  • Please do not drop-off forgotten student items (including laptops, instruments, or school work). Your student will be OK and we will help them with whatever they forgot! We do not have the staff to facilitate deliveries, and it is disruptive to pull students from class.
    • Emergency items such as medication, cold weather jackets, or house keys are exceptions
