PTSA Principal’s Coffee 11/4 Save the Date! Tyee PTSA and Tyee MS are pleased to announce the first in a series of in-person meetings with Tyee MS Principal Byron Lillie and Tyee PTSA Co-Presidents Jennifer Lee & Christine Cheung.

Our first event will be Friday, November 4 at 9:30am in the Tyee Library. There will be a brief overview from Mr. Lillie of the school’s academic goals for the year, as well as a brief presentation about the work of the Tyee PTSA. At least half of the time will be provided for general Questions & Answers so our families and caregivers get the information they need. This is the first time since 2019 we’ve been able to host these interactive sessions, and we welcome all families to join us!

We have seating capacity for 90, and will also be providing the session via Livestream for overflow:

Picture Retakes 11/1 If your student missed Picture Day on September 20, not to fear! Retakes will be hosted at Tyee on Tuesday, November 1st.
Tyee: Badminton Registration closes 11/2 Badminton registration is open! Students were e-mailed at their student account with a registration link.  Please ask your student to open their school Outlook e-mail to find the link, and sign-up there.

Registration will close Wednesday, November 2nd at 11:59pm. Badminton Practice begins Monday, November 14th, and meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00-4:45pm.

Students will indicate whether they are registering for competitive or recreational badminton.

  • Competitive: Students registering must commit to all three days and matches will either fall on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays each week. Game day schedule will be sent to families a week after badminton begins. Competitive badminton will be lottery based due to the high volume of interest and previous badminton experience is required.
  • Recreational: does not require attendance each day (M,T,TH) but the practice schedule will be released after registration has closed once we know how many students to accommodate.

Friendly reminder, ASB membership is required for students registered for after school activities and sports and can be purchased online here https://wa-bellevue.intouchreceipting.com/. Scholarships available for those who qualify.

Students will be notified of placement on Thursday, November 3rd.

Tyee: Lockdown Training & Drill on 10/28 This Friday, October 28th BSD Safety & Security will lead Tyee 1st period classes through an informational presentation on procedures to respond to incidents of an emergency nearby or on campus that would warrant a lockout or lockdown response. Following this, all students will practice a Lockdown Drill in the classroom settings.

We understand conversations about emergencies and violence are very scary for our students, staff, and families. We also understand that we must prepare for such emergencies, and that training and drills are important to practice. By working together students, staff, and families may better ensure safety on our campus and in our community. For additional information and resources, please be sure to visit the BSD Safety & Security Page.

November Staff Appreciation The Teachers & Staff at Tyee do amazing work! The Leadership Class would like to provide a little “goodie” bags for our staff this November, just to show our appreciation for all they do. We are looking for individually wrapped items to put in small gift bags. Ideas our class had were candy, snacks, stickers, or other small gifts (no more than $5, please). There are around 110 staff member who work in the school, so in addition to students we’re also asking parents/guardians to help! Please bring all gifts/donations to the Main Office anytime between now and Thursday, November 10.
Clubs & Sports Tyee Middle School offers a wide range of activities after school – including clubs, sports, and study hall. A full list is available on the Tyee website: https://bsd405.org/tyee/timberwolves/. Activity Bus service departs at 4:50pm every day of the week, except Wednesdays. Transportation is provided for students attending clubs and activities who qualify for a bus pass.
Study Hall & Afternoon Expectations Tyee is happy to provide a 45-minute Study Hall period Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00-4:45pm. It is expected that students who attend engage in schoolwork independently or small groups, and that conversations be limited. If students are disruptive or unsafe in Study Hall, they may be referred to their Assistant Principal and/or dismissed from Study Hall. In such cases, students should report to the Main Office to use the phones to contact home to arrange transportation.

Please note there is NO Study Hall on Fridays. On Fridays, students must depart campus at Dismissal (3:25), or arrange their own transportation home after Tutorial (3:55).

Visiting Campus  Thank you families and caregivers for supporting a safe and learning-centered environment during the school day. Some key reminders below:

  • All visitors are to check-in at the Main Office. This includes before and after school times.
  • Visitors must sign-in at the LobbyGuard vestibule, and wear a visible badge through the day.
  • If meeting with a Teacher, an appointment is required. Please e-mail the Teacher to arrange the appointment date/time.
  • Please do not drop-off forgotten student items (including laptops, instruments, or school work). Your student will be OK and we will help them with whatever they forgot! We do not have the staff to facilitate deliveries, and it is disruptive to pull students from class.
    • Emergency items such as medication, cold weather jackets, or house keys are exceptions
Student Survey (Fall 2022) This fall as usual we will be doing a student survey, to collect information on school climate and to provide teachers with feedback from students. The survey is run through Panorama Education (http://www.panoramaed.com) and is given to students in grades 3-12 across the district. This is the ninth year we are doing the survey. The primary purpose of the survey is to help increase student voice in our district. It gives us an indication of where our strengths are and where we can do better. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Naomi Calvo, Director of Research, Evaluation & Assessment, at [email protected] or 425-456-4274.
