Greetings Tyee Community!

Hope you all had a very Happy Veteran’s Day and a pleasant 3-day weekend with your students. We’re excited to feel rested up and back at it. Happy Monday.

A reminder to send your student to school with long-sleeves and coat all week, temperatures are dropping into the 30’s and we want everyone to stay warm, safe, and healthy. If you need assistance with new warm-weather clothes, please e-mail our Family Connections Specialist, Ms. Ana Lewis: [email protected]

Please see below for updates for the week. Hope to see many of you at Wednesday’s Family University Night event!

Byron Lillie, Principal

Family University Night (FUN) 11/16 Join us at Tyee Middle School the evening of Wednesday, November 16th for our Fall Family University Night (F.U.N.!). This evening event is a great opportunity for families, caregivers, and students to tour the school building, learn about more ways to get involved and engaged, and hear about some of the various services and programs Tyee has to offer – as well as helpful hints for student success.

The event is hosted from 6-8pm. Doors open at 5:45, and we’ll be serving a light cheese pizza dinner at 6:00, courtesy of Tyee PTSA. Beginning at 6:30, we’ll host 25-minute sessions and experiences on a variety of topics, featuring student panels and presentations from Tyee staff. A full list of sessions will be published in next week’s Family Update e-mail.

To let us know how many families can attend (and how many would like a light dinner), please RSVP at the link below TONIGHT.

RSV & Handwashing As you may know there has been a rise in Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) cases in King County, we need to continue practice good habits with students, such as hand washing, covering coughs with an elbow, wearing a mask, eating a balanced diet, drinking water, and going to bed when they should.  At school we’re encouraging staff and students wipe down surfaces and regularly wash hands. Please contact our School Nurse, Tammy Suen with any questions or needs ([email protected])
Lost & Found! Our lost and found is full of water bottles, jackets, lunch bags…. Please have your child to check the lost and found bin by the front entrance of the school! We will be donating all items next Wednesday, November 23th.
Gifts for Staff This time of year around the holidays, our Teachers and Staff really feel the love from our students, families, and community. We appreciate the generosity and care that are brought through gifts, but a gentle reminder that BSD staff are public employees and limited in what we can accept. While gifts aren’t prohibited, they must be of nominal value. Our district prefer gifts be no more than $25 in value. Anything in excess may need to be returned.

If families wish to provide more than a token of gratitude with a more significant contribution – donations can be made to the school via the Bellevue Schools Foundation or Tyee PTSA.

Clubs & Sports Tyee Middle School offers a wide range of activities after school – including clubs, sports, and study hall. A full list is available on the Tyee website: https://bsd405.org/tyee/timberwolves/. Activity Bus service departs at 4:50pm every day of the week, except Wednesdays. Transportation is provided for students attending clubs and activities who qualify for a bus pass.
Study Hall & Afternoon Expectations Tyee is happy to provide a 45-minute Study Hall period Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00-4:45pm. It is expected that students who attend engage in schoolwork independently or small groups, and that conversations be limited. If students are disruptive or unsafe in Study Hall, they may be referred to their Assistant Principal and/or dismissed from Study Hall. In such cases, students should report to the Main Office to use the phones to contact home to arrange transportation.
Visiting Campus  Thank you families and caregivers for supporting a safe and learning-centered environment during the school day.

Some reminders:

  • All visitors are to check-in at the Main Office. This includes before and after school times.
  • Visitors must sign-in at the LobbyGuard vestibule, and wear a visible badge through the day.
  • If meeting with a Teacher, an appointment is required. Please e-mail the Teacher to arrange the appointment date/time.
  • Please do not drop-off forgotten student items (including laptops, instruments, or school work). Your student will be OK and we will help them with whatever they forgot! We do not have the staff to facilitate deliveries, and it is disruptive to pull students from class.
    • Emergency items such as medication, cold weather jackets, or house keys are exceptions
