Tyee: Stay Home if Sick!!
  • APPEARANCE, BEHAVIOR – unusually tired, pale, lack of appetite, difficult to wake, confused or irritable.
  • EYES – thick mucus or pus draining from the eye (conjunctivitis).
  • FEVER – temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.  Remember that a child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school without fever reducing medication.  A child sent home from school with fever over 100 degrees may not return to school the following day
  • Ear Pain w/Fever – Untreated ear infections may cause permanent hearing loss so, consult with the student’s health care provider.
  • EAR INFECTIONS WITHOUT FEVER do not needto be excluded from school, but the child needs to get medical treatment and follow-up.  Untreated ear infections can cause permanent hearing loss.
  • GREENISH NOSE DISCHARGE, AND/OR CHRONIC COUGHING IN CLASS – should be seen by a health care provider.  These conditions may be contagious and require treatment.
  • Persistent Nasal Drainage and/or Chronic Cough – may need to be seen by a health care provider. These may be signs of a condition that may spread to others and require treatment.
  • SORE THROAT – especially with fever or swollen glands in the neck.
  • DIARRHEA – 3 or more watery stools in a 24 hours period especially if the child feels ill.
  • VOMITING* – vomiting 2 or more times within the past 24 hours. *A student may have a single event of vomiting (especially after eating foods quickly).  If there is no further vomiting and no other symptoms or complaints, they are fine to be at school.
  • RASH – body rash with fever.  Symptoms of contagious skin diseases not being treated.   Heat rashes and allergic reactions are not contagious.
Tyee: Arrival to School

School opens at 8:00am. Please drop your student off prior to 8:20 to ensure they can make it to class on-time. The darkness and winter weather has increased traffic, so please leave home a few minutes earlier this season.  We are monitoring tardies and will follow up with students and families if assistance is needed. Thank you for your help!

The parking lot surface can be ICY. Vehicles must stay below 10mph in our parking lot.  Use the curb lane ONLY for drop-off and pick-up, it is VERY UNSAFE to stop in the passing lane and ask children to walk between vehicles.  Please stop for pedestrians and follow staff direction.

Tyee Library: “Low Tech Tuesdays” Is your student looking for a focused place to study after lunch? Do they need a break from hours of screen time? Introducing “Low-Tech Tuesdays” in the Tyee Library! Beginning tomorrow, laptop use will be very limited on Tuesdays with an emphasis on reading, studying, and checking out books.  Laptops are still allowed in designated sections, but exclusively for studying or school work with permission from Ms. Locke at the Book Desk. For all the gamers out there, we encourage they catch a break in the courtyard with a fun game of foursquare or basketball!
Tyee: Family Connections Resource “Experiencing hardships or need referrals to local resources for assistance?  Please contact Ana Lewis, [email protected] “
Tyee: Visiting Campus  Thank you families and caregivers for supporting a safe and learning-centered environment during the school day.

Some reminders:

  • All visitors are to check-in at the Main Office. This includes before and after school times.
  • Visitors must sign-in at the LobbyGuard vestibule, and wear a visible badge through the day.
  • If meeting with a Teacher, an appointment is required. Please e-mail the Teacher to arrange the appointment date/time.
  • Please do not drop-off forgotten student items (including laptops, instruments, or school work). Your student will be OK and we will help them with whatever they forgot! We do not have the staff to facilitate deliveries, and it is disruptive to pull students from class.
    • Emergency items such as medication, cold weather jackets, or house keys are exceptions
BSD: Gifts for Staff Every year when the holidays approach, we see grateful and thoughtful parents and community members who want to find ways to express their appreciation to our teachers and other employees for their work by giving gifts.   While Board Policy 5255 does not prohibit all gifts, gifts should still be of a nominal value.  Often parents are not aware that such gifts to publicly-paid employees are not permitted.   In the past we have advised that gifts be no more than $25 of value. Although heartfelt, gifts of significant monetary value or cash place the employee in a position of conflict of interest and may be in violation of our Conflicts of Interest Policy 5251 and will be graciously declined or returned.
