April 1, 2022 – Wilburton Community Newsletter
A Note from the Administration
Chhoun Mey, Principal
Stephanie Mathias, Assistant Principal |
Dear Wilburton Families and Parents,
Ahead of Ramadan celebrations, we would like to wish a Ramadan Mubarak to all those observing this holy period. Many of our students and families will be observing Ramadan during the month of April and as a culturally diverse school community, we will be supporting our students and families during school in their observance and celebration. Many classrooms will also take time to learn about the importance and traditions related to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
Thank you to all our families and students for continuing to help support each individual’s choice around mask-wearing. It has been great to see our community come together and continue to support one another in a kind and compassionate way.
In partnership,
Chhoun Mey, Principal Stephanie Mathias, Assistant Principal |

Ramadan, in the Islamic tradition, begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon and marks the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the holy month of fasting. This year, Ramadan begins on Saturday, April 2, and concludes on Sunday, May 1.
People of the Muslim faith observe this spiritual month with fasting, prayer and introspection. The obligation to refrain from eating or drinking from dawn to dusk during the time of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of the religion of Islam.
In some communities, drums or bells ring in the predawn hour to remind others to take part in the meal before dawn, suhur. After sunset prayers, fasting is broken with a meal shared among families and friends called iftar. In Muslim-majority countries, work hours are often adjusted during the month of Ramadan to accommodate acts of worship.
The end of Ramadan, one of the two major religious holidays of the Muslim calendar, is the Feast of Fast-breaking, Eid al-Fitr. During this celebration new clothes are worn, special sweets are baked, gifts are exchanged, and families and friends gather to pray and share meals. |

2022-2023 Enrollment Now Open | It is Time to Enroll New Students
New student enrollment (including incoming kindergarteners) for the 2022-2023 school year is now open at https://bsd405.org/schools/enrollment/. While you may enroll your students later, enrolling now helps the district ensure we have the correct staffing to support your students with the smallest classes possible.
If your student is already enrolled in a BSD school, you do not need to submit a new enrollment. They will automatically move up to the next grade.
Thank you.

Bellevue’s Newest School – Bellevue Virtual Academy | The Bellevue School District recently announced that the district’s 30th school will be an online school. Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, BVA will be renamed and offer a permanent online learning option for BSD students in grades kindergarten through 12. It will be a choice school, and students will need to apply to join the program. Families may apply to the program for the 2022-2023 school year by completing this form. Applications are due back by the end of the day Sunday, April 10, 2022. Once accepted, students will be able to stay through graduation and receive a diploma from the new school.
To help families learn more about online learning and enrollment for the 2022-23 school year, the district will hosted an Online Information Session on March 29. The recording of that event can be found online for families interested in watching it. Additional resources include:

RSVP for Spring for Schools – May 13 | Join the Bellevue Schools Foundation in person for Spring for Schools at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue, on May 13, 2022, for a premiere event that’s unlike any of the 31 events of years past! They are keeping participants’ experience and health top of mind as they prepare to celebrate BSD’s stars — students and educators in all 29 public schools in Bellevue. Throughout this school year, over $800,000 in distributions from the Foundation directly support the academic, artistic, social and emotional development of almost 20,000 students.
Spring for Schools is a fundraiser to ensure critical programming provided by BSF continues; donations will be leveraged to transform public education in our community. While registration for Spring for Schools is free, it is BSF’s hope that attendees celebrate our students, educators and mission by making a donation at this time here.
