August 8, 2022 – Wilburton Community Newsletter

Dear Wilburton Community,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year at Wilburton Elementary! We hope you are enjoying the beautiful Northwest summer. We are excited for the school year to begin shortly. This communication is intended to provide some general information including a few important dates. We will provide detailed information on safety measures and school procedures later in August through additional emails, website postings and videos on our website. In the meantime, please enjoy the rest of the summer and reach out to us if you have any questions. Our office is scheduled to open on August 22nd.

First Day of School and Bell Times:  The first day of school for students in Grades 1-5 is Thursday, September 1st. The first day of school for kindergarten is Wednesday, September 7th.  Wilburton will have the same bell times as in previous years. Class begins at 8am each day and ends at 2:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, school ends at 12:15pm. We will send out additional information about arrival and dismissal procedures shortly.

School Meals: Since the beginning of the pandemic, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has allowed meals to be provided to students at no cost to families. The waivers for this practice expired on June 30, 2022. As a result, the district will start charging for meals starting this school year. Your children may qualify for free or reduced priced meals based on household income. Applications for free and reduced meals are open on August 15 and can be found here. Wilburton will again be offering breakfast and lunch at school. Breakfast starts at 7:40am.

Class Placement: You will be notified of your student’s teacher/class placement via email on August 29th. If you do not receive this email, feel free to call the Wilburton office beginning on August 30th at 425.456.4300.

Back to School Teacher and Family Meet and Greet – August 30th from 3pm-4pm: This is a time where students and families are welcome to come and meet their teacher, find their classroom, and say hello to other school staff. All students must be accompanied by adults during this time in the building. This is not an ideal time for a conference with teachers, if you would like to set up a separate conference with your student’s teacher, please reach out to them directly. The PTA has asked the Chillz Popsicle Truck to be in our parking lot for you to purchase an ice cream or popsicle to enjoy if you would like on your way out.

Kindergarten Readiness Day: Kindergarten families – please mark your calendars for August 25th for Kindergarten Readiness Day. Students will have the opportunity to spend time with kindergarten teachers in their classroom while adults spend time with office staff to prepare for the first day of school. We will be sending up a SignUpGenius to schedule students and families for Kindergarten Readiness very soon.

School Supplies:  Every Wilburton Elementary School student will be supplied with the instructional materials (e.g. textbooks, workbooks, paper, pencils, crayons, etc.) necessary for their academic success. We recognize students often like to bring their own supplies to supplement what we provide at school. Items you may choose to send with your student will be shared with the rest of the grade and help us stretch school resources further. An optional school supply list for each grade level can be found in this link.

Transportation: The Bellevue School District provides free transportation for students who reside within their school’s attendance area, but outside their school’s walking boundary.  All elementary schools have a one-mile walk path boundary. The transportation department will mail home specific information about your student’s exact pick-up/drop-off location and times a few days before school starts. Please contact the Transportation department for additional information or questions regarding buses and bus schedules:  https://bsd405.org/departments/transportation/

The staff at Wilburton are eager to the start the school year and are looking forward to seeing students and families again very soon. In the meantime, please continue to enjoy the rest of your summer with your family and reach out to us if you have any questions or are in need of any assistance.

Sincerely,

Chhoun Mey

Wilburton Principal
