June Family Newsletter

I started this school year as a principal who had a vision, a dream, and was a little nervous about what to expect.  As I reflect on the school year- from planning and preparation to getting ready to close for the summer, the words that come to mind are: Family, Grateful, Supported, Blessed, and Collaboration.  This team of teachers, students, and community is one special group. Nothing is too big for our Wilburton Family to tackle. Our vision of providing a relevant, adaptive, and rigorous learning environment is being realized for each of our students! I am so proud of the work we did together this year to open this school. The learning, the innovation, the instruction, and most importantly the relationships we have all created are ones that will last a lifetime.   So, as we finish up our inaugural year with a lot more LEARNING and a whole lot of FUN, it will be time to reset, relax, and get rejuvenated so we can come back in September and make year two even better than year one!

Enjoy your summer together with your friends and family. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures when we return in September.

#WeAreFamily

Sincerely,

Beth Hamilton

Principal

Updated

BSD Calendar for 2018-19

Last Day of School Now June 21 for 2018-19 School Year
Missed school days due to snow – five total in February – will result in the school year being extended by one day. The last day of school for the Bellevue School District will be Friday, June 21.

One additional makeup day will also be added on Friday, March 15. The day was originally a planned professional development day for teachers, but all students will now be expected to attend school that day. March 18 is now a professional development day for all certified staff, and will remain a no school day for all students.

The district will request a waiver from the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for the remaining three missed school days due to snow. Additional days could still be added pending approval by the state of the district waiver request.

January Family Newsletter

Happy New Year, Wolves!  We hope that you had a relaxing break and are ready to get back into the school routine!  So many of our students did a great job reading over break and turned in their Reading Challenge Forms Today.  Students who turned in their forms will be enjoying their Hot Cocoa Party on Wednesday.

This winter/spring we have many activities our students will partake in along with the everyday learning they experience.  Below are a few ways students are extending their learning in January:

  • Grade 2 will welcome the Toyman
  • All students will enjoy a Zaniac Assembly (thank you Bellevue Schools Foundation)
  • 4/5 grade students will have a glass fusing workshop (thank you BSF)
  • The BHS choir and Steeldrum groups will perform at Wilburton
  • Living Voices: Island of Hope will perform for grade 3 (thank you BSF)

All students will have events and activities throughout the year that extend their learning and continue to focus on making the learning rigorous and relevant.

This month will also feature our first ever FESTIVAL OF CULTURE for Wilburton Families.  We are excited to partner with PTA to sponsor this evening! The evening will be from 6-8pm on January 25.  We hope everyone can make it to learn about the many cultures around the world that make up our Wilburton community!  If you would like to help and/or be part of the Festival of Culture, please go to https://www.wilburtonpta.org/festival-of-culture/ for more details.

Recap: Winter Sing Along Fun!

On Wednesday, December 19 our students joined together in a winter sing along!  Thanks to our amazing choir and Ms. Hazen, General Education Music Teacher, for leading us in songs of the winter season! During the assembly we also focused on our Virtue of the Month: KINDNESS and challenged our students to the Winter Break Reading Challenge!  I think we are going to have quite the Hot Cocoa Party when we return.  Wilburton Wolves LOVE to READ!

Some of our students and parents were interested in having copies of the lyrics to the songs we sang.  You can see the song lyrics HERE.  A great way to promote reading and singing over the winter break.

Winter Break Reading Challenge

On Wednesday (12/19) , your child will be bringing home their optional WINTER READING CHALLENGE.  The goal is to fill up their marshmallows in the hot cocoa cup by reading over break!

Students who bring back their completed Reading Challenge on Monday, 1/7/19, will earn a Hot Cocoa Party with Ms. Neal, Ms. Hamilton, and Ms. Roberts!

Happy Reading!

Winter Reading Challenge  (in case the one given to your student is lost or filled up…. here is another copy!)

December Family Newsletter

We will send our Wilburton Family Newsletter out at the beginning of

each month to highlight happenings and reminders.  This is the December Edition.

This month brings change and flexibility to the helm here at Wilburton.  As shared earlier, we have three new teachers joining our staff: Ms. Radics, Ms. McCarthy, and Dr. Estrada!  We are so lucky to have these staff members join our Wolf Family.  Because of the additions to our school, we also have some changes to our specialist schedule for some classes.  Your classroom teacher will share news about these changes so that you are aware of your child’s schedule daily.

This month we will continue to focus on our learning, incorporating collaboration and the integration of learning.  Computer Science Week kicks off the month and each of our classrooms will take part in activities that continue to promote and share about computer science and its importance in our lives now and in the future.

On the routines and procedures side, there are a couple things to remember/review:

  • Please review our arrival/dismissal procedures to make sure everyone is following them for the safety of our students. Also, make sure that your child knows how he/she will be getting home each day. This helps ease anxiety and helps students be calm and safe at the end of the day.
  • Visitors to the school need to always check in at the office. Visitors should be here for an educational purpose and always following our Wilburton Wolf Expectations, just as our students and staff do.
  • Make sure your child is dressed for success at school: layers for cold weather and appropriate shoes (no cleats at school!)
