Multicultural Night

Dear Families,

We hope you are doing well. It was a pleasure to see many of you and share food during our Multicultural Night last Friday. We are so grateful to be part of the Ardmore community and enjoyed our kids’ performances and delicious food. Last Friday night during our Multicultural night was a testimony to what makes Ardmore truly a special place.

During the month of  Feb our students were very excited about continuing to celebrate and learn from the many achievements and body of work that our Black community shares with us. As we enter March at Ardmore, we will be focusing on celebrating Multiculturalism and Women’s History Month. We launched this through our last family event, and we will continue to have different cultural events with Holi coming up next week. This week our students will have an assembly to celebrate multiculturalism, students will showcase a few cultural performances.

Thanks again for your ongoing partnership below are some update and upcoming events and highlights.

Sincerely,

Mrs. B and Ms. Obaid

p.s. If you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day we hope you’ll have a great celebration this Sunday!

Spotlight on Instruction

3rd grade Social Studies  –  This week students finalized their Unites Sates social studies project. Students edited and published their state reports and have designed an art piece representing their state. They then finalized their piece and put it up as mural in our school.

Ramadan Accommodation

Ramadan Mubarak to families that are observing. Ramadan is practiced differently among families, communities and countries around the world. At Ardmore we want to make sure that students feel comfortable practicing their own family traditions around Ramadan. For some they may be fasting for other they may not. So we are currently offering an alternative space than the lunchroom.  We are ensuring that student will be the lead in making the decision for themselves should they choose an alternative space than the lunchroom.

Safety Drill

Washington state law and Bellevue School District policy require all schools to hold at least one drill per calendar month while school is in session. This month, we will be conducting a lockout drill and practicing quickly securing the building sometime in the week of March 25th.

A lockout is different from a lockdown. A lockout is used when there is no direct danger to the school, but there may be something potentially dangerous in the area around the school. For example, if a bear was spotted in the neighborhood or if there was police activity near the school.

During a lockout, students are brought inside and all exterior doors are locked. Inside, classes continue, but staff maintain a heightened level of awareness in case there is a change in the situation.

Please talk with your student about preparing for emergencies and disasters. Encourage them to talk about their concerns and express their feelings. Emphasize that even though sometimes things happen that we may not expect, there are lots of things we can do to help us stay safe.

For more information on talking to your child about school safety, you might want to visit the website https://www.mhanational.org/talking-kids-about-school-safety.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Ardmore School Review

Did you know that Bellevue School District (BSD) was recently named the top school district in Washington?

We could really use your help to help Ardmore‘s reviews online.

As you may know, 6 years ago Ardmore received some negative reviews on Google.  A lot has changed in six years and we would love to hear your thoughts and encourage you to post your experiences.   Here’s Ardmore’s profile on Niche and here it is on GreatSchools.

Thank you for your support of our school and for helping other families make informed decisions when choosing a school.
