Arabic Bilingual Program

Our Arabic Bilingual Language Program is dedicated to actively valuing and respecting the diverse identities and backgrounds of our students. Through innovative curriculum and program development, we are committed to ensuring that students’ cultural heritage becomes a vital and integrated component of their educational experience. Our Arabic Bilingual Language Program initiative not only aims to foster greater linguistic proficiency in Arabic and among our community but also strives to sustain and preserve students’ rich cultural heritage and language, fostering a deep sense of pride and connection within our community.
Open Enrollment is from December 11-Jaunuary 19th.
Apply to our program for K, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade here: Arabic Bilingual Education Program Application

Who is eligible?

The program is open to all students who are interested in learning Arabic.

  • Kindergarten enrollment does not necessitate language proficiency assessments or the fulfillment of any language requirements for students.
  • Students enrolling in grades 1 and 2, a language proficiency assessment may be necessary to gauge their language proficiency level. If these students can demonstrate proficiency standards appropriate for their grade level, they are eligible to enroll in the heritage language program. If not, a more extensive discussion involving parents and program leaders will be needed to assess the program’s capacity to support and accommodate the learner.
  • For students enrolling in grades 3 and beyond, they are also required to take a language proficiency assessment to determine their proficiency level. Additionally, they must exhibit proficiency standards that align with their grade level as a prerequisite for enrolling in the heritage language program.

What does instruction look like in the AHL classroom?

In our K-5 AHL classrooms instruction is primarily in English with dedicated time for explicit Arabic language instruction.  However, our teachers are actively bridging the two languages throughout the day to foster authentic conversations and learning opportunities that are centered on students’ questions and comments.  Please see below for an approximate breakdown:

What does differentiation look like in the classroom?  How does the teacher teach to my child’s level of proficiency?
Our students have a wide range of proficiency in Arabic.  Some students are proficient speakers, readers, and writers while others just have conversational Arabic.  All are welcome!  Our teachers are able to present instruction and curriculum to students at their just right levels; similarly, students will opportunities to learn from each other in language partner pairs where they learn from each other.
