No School (Professional Development Day)

Greetings Chinook Middle School Community,

We held our first safety drill today, an evacuation drill, and I am very proud of how our students responded. Student safety is a top priority for us at Chinook Middle School and we practice school-wide emergency drills monthly, including lockdown, evacuation, drop-cover-hold, and shelter-in-place, to know how to respond to actual emergencies. See more information about safety and security preparations on the BSD website here.

Lots of important news and updates are below.

In Partnership,

James Peterson (Principal)

New Fall Hours for Bellevue Family Hub

The Bellevue School District welcomes families from across the district to the new Bellevue Family Hub located at Highland Middle School. Families are invited to visit the Hub to meet with trained volunteers who can connect them to resources for clothing assistance, rent assistance, and BSD school support. The Bellevue Family Hub located at Highland Middle School (15027 NE Bel-Red Road) is a joint partnership between the Bellevue School District and Bellevue LifeSpring.

Since the Hub opened its doors on August 22, over 500 students have already been served. The Bellevue Family Hub continues to invite students and their families to come and receive access to three essential resources for a successful start to the year: 1) Online student verification and completion of the application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals; 2) Back-to-school clothing support for students and 3) Navigating resources for rent assistance.

The new fall hours for the Hub are:

  • Tuesdays: 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

COVID-19 Guidance for 2022-23 School Year

On August 5, 2022, the Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH) released an updated version of the Requirements and Guidance to Mitigate COVID-19 Transmission in K-12 Schools and Child Care. BSD will continue to follow the guidance from WA DOH as it comes out, with any requirements followed as requirements and any recommendations followed as recommendations. The district’s respective COVID-19 webpages will be updated to reflect any changes throughout the year.

Reporting COVID-19 Cases and Outbreaks
The updated guidance from WA DOH requires notification to staff, students and their families when there are cases and outbreaks in schools. The Bellevue School District maintains an online dashboard for this purpose. COVID-19 cases for the 2022-23 school year are located on the COVID-19 Cases in Schools Dashboard, with data updated daily at 7:00 a.m.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
