I-Connect

Recent news reports showed troubling drops in post-pandemic test scores nationwide in math and reading. How did Chinook students fare? Was there learning loss, and was it consistent across grade levels? Examine what the latest data reveals, and much more, at the next I-Connect meeting on Wednesday, November 16, 9:00-10:30 a.m. in Room 1402 (located in the rear of the Chinook Commons).

The guest speaker will be Anna Van Windekens, Ph.D., Research Scientist in the Bellevue School District’s (BSD) Department of Research, Evaluation and Assessment. Van Windekens specializes in collecting and analyzing data about our students, their performance, and other vital issues related to education. She will show us the latest reports she has on Chinook, as well as on schools Districtwide. She will share insights on how the School District uses data to help achieve learning goals, and she will also discuss her contributions as a member of BSD’s Reimaging Middle School Steering Committee.

All parents/caregivers are welcome to attend I-Connect meetings, a program sponsored by Chinook PTSA.

In Case You Missed It

Too Sick for School?

Cold and flu season is upon us now, and we continue to see positive cases of Covid 19 in the Chinook learning community.

There are at least a dozen symptoms shared by some or all those ailments, making it nearly impossible to know what you have without a diagnostic test, a medical exam or both.

You may wonder, “When is my child too sick for school”?  If your child has any of the following, keep them home for rest and recovery:

Fever, headache, exhaustion, body aches and pains, fatigue, weakness, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Keeping ill students at home & encouraging frequent hand washing protects all, including those with fragile immune systems & certain medical conditions.  While we regret any inconvenience, it may result in fewer lost workdays & less illness for family members.

Once symptoms are significantly improved, and no vomiting or fever for 24 hours (without the use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen), we look forward to seeing students back at Chinook.  Thank you.

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Goal: Safely and efficiently drop students off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon through a systematic process.

For the safety of our students, please:

  • Drive SLOWLY
  • Manage technology (no cell phones, please)
  • Demonstrate respect and patience toward all

The right lane (curb) will always be drop off and pick up. The left lane is “thru” traffic. Please follow the guidance of the traffic attendants.

Drop Off

Please pull forward, do not stop in the middle of the passenger loading zone.

  • Watch for students crossing.
  • Cars should pull completely forward and utilize the full length of the passenger loading zone.
  • If you need to get out of the car, pull into a parking spot for continued traffic flow.

Pick Up

  • Watch for students crossing.
  • Cars should pull completely forward and utilize the full length of the passenger loading zone.
  • If you need to get out of the car, pull into a parking spot for continued traffic flow.

Native American Heritage Month

In 1990, a joint resolution was approved by President George H.W. Bush, which called for November to be named National Native American Heritage Month. Native American Month started as a day of appreciation and acknowledgment for the unique contributions made by the first Americans for the growth and establishment of the United States. Eventually it grew to become a monthlong observance.

During the month we explore the heritage, culture and experience of Native American peoples both historically and in American life today.

Bellevue High School Football

Middle school students are welcome to attend Bellevue High football games if they are accompanied by a parent.  Unaccompanied middle and elementary school students will not be admitted. All students are expected to remain in designated seating areas throughout the entire game except during halftime or other reasonable breaks to access restrooms or concessions. Thank you for supporting our teams and community.

Tutoring

Venture Tutoring, a group of Interlake High School students, is offering free Math and English tutoring to middle school students.
