Checking Students Out If you need to check your student out of school mid-day, please contact our Attendance Office before with the time you plan to arrive. A great number to save to your cell phone contact list is Tyee Attendance: 425.456.6809. Or, e-mail [email protected]. This helps us to excuse the absence and have student is ready for pick-up at the office!

If your student uses a cell phone to communicate with you about leaving early, please call us or ask your student to come to the Attendance Office and check out through us.

Messages, Deliveries, and Items Left at Home Student Messages: If you need to get a message to your student, such as reminders for appointments/rides, please e-mail [email protected] or call 425.456.6809.

Student Deliveries: Tyee is experiencing sharp increase in parents and caregivers expecting our staff will immediately deliver personal items to students. Calling students out of class to pick these up has proven to be disruptive to teaching and learning. We have capacity to accept ONLY emergency items (such as medication) during the school day. We cannot accept and deliver other personal items. Starting March 1, Tyee is changing practice and Staff will no longer provide delivery service for students. We understand change like this is frustrating and this message may not reach everyone, so we will gently remind families of the change should they stop in and request a delivery.

Forgotten Items: Most our Teachers and Staff at Tyee are parents ourselves and have worried our own kids have what they need! We also know middle school is the perfect time of life tto develop independence – and the responsibility that comes with it. Kids may stress about going to school without a laptop, phone, or assignment  – but that may be a good thing. Forgetting is a powerful learning experience, an opportunity to confront the ability to bring everything. One uncomfortable day can remind us of the importance of this skill! Far better we help your student learn to get to class (then high school, then college) with items they need.

At Tyee, we strive to extend grace to our students. A day without important, but not life-changing, items can be worked through!

  • Borrowed paper and a pencil can do for a lesson.
  • Lunch is FREE in our cafeteria
  • Teachers extend grace for one-time late items, in most cases students can make up loss of credit on an assignment.

Some ideas to think about over Mid-Winter Break to help:

  • Pack the night before – after they finish homework or before bed.
  • Develop a reminder phase such as “keys, phone, wallet, backpack”
  • Without hints, ask: “What items do you need today?”
  • Or, with hints, ask: “Don’t you have volleyball today?” or “how about that class we talked about at dinner?”
  • Post a list of the items they can’t leave without in a highly-visible spot such as a doorway. A few items we recommend including:
    • Backpack
    • Laptop (and charger)
    • Music Instruments
    • Homework/Assignments
    • Bus Pass
    • Phone (if applicable)
    • PE or Sports Clothes
    • A hug & smile to send them on their way
