Good Afternoon Tyee Community,

Welcome back to school! We hope you had a fantastic Mid-Winter Break with your student. We’re excited to have them back as we continue on this “March” through 3rd Quarter.

It is still February, but planning for next year is already underway. Students are soon getting information and making selections for classes in the 2023-24 school year. We will continue to keep families posted about key dates, and encourage you talk with your student about their interests, passions, goals, and strengths as they list their choices.

A reminder to keep a close eye on the weather forecast the next 24-48 hours as another weather system may be approaching. Check local news and the BSD Website and Social Media accounts to stay up to date.  If school is in session but it is unsafe to walk or drive to school – please stay home until it is safe! Absences will be excused. Please e-mail [email protected] to let us know if your student will be late or absent due to weather or transportation disruptions.

Byron Lillie, Principal

Stay Healthy! Welcome back from the mid-winter break! Are you ready and well to learn? We strongly recommend you and your student to stay home if you are having cold-like symptoms. Please visit: https://bsd405.org/services/health/too-sick-for-school/. Giving a fever reducing medication just before returning to school does not make a student well. It may only mask the fever until the medication wears off. In this situation, a student needs to be home so others are not exposed to illness.

What are the fever reducing medications? Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Iburpofen, Aspirin, Naproxen, Dayquil, Nyquil

What to do if you have COVID-19 symptoms: https://doh.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2023-02/420456-COVID19DecisionTrees.pdf

If you have one or more of these new, changed, or worsening symptoms: Fever (≥100.4°F) or chills, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Muscle or body aches, Loss of taste or smell, Congestion or runny nose, Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, Headache, Fatigue, Sore throat, Cough.

Stay home and test for COVID-19 or see a healthcare provider

Tyee: Arrival to School & Driver Safety

School opens at 8:00am. Please drop your student off before 8:20 to ensure they make it to class on-time. The darkness and winter weather has increased traffic, so please leave home a few minutes earlier this season.  We are monitoring tardies and will follow up with students and families if assistance is needed. Thank you for your help!

The parking lot surface can be ICY in Winter. Vehicles must stay below 10mph in our parking lot.  Use the curb lane ONLY for drop-off and pick-up, it is VERY UNSAFE to stop in the passing lane and ask children to walk between vehicles.   Please stop for pedestrians and follow staff direction.
