Tyee: Upcoming Dates
  • February 10: BSD Job Fair (info below)
  • February 19-23: Mid-Winter Break (no school)
Tyee: March 22 & Pre-Arranged Absences In response to the January 17 school closure, March 22 will now be a student school day. We recognize some families may have made plans for that day, so please see guidance below regarding BSD’s pre-arranged absence requirements:

Bellevue School District gives all students 5 pre-arranged absence days per school year.  These are excused and can be used for family events, travel, extracurricular events,  private school interviews, etc.  Please complete the pre-arranged absence form prior to the absence for it to be excused.   Students must get their teacher and parents signatures.  After they get all teacher signatures, your student will need to turn the completed form in, to the attendance office.    This form should be submitted to the attendance office at least 3 days before the planned absence so we have time to process it.  You can find more information about pre-arranged absences on this page:  https://bsd405.org/tyee/report-an-absence/

Community: Upcoming Road Closure & Traffic Impact The City of Bellevue is planning a significant closure to Factoria Blvd, beginning March 9 through the end of the school year. More information will be coming from schools in the south end of the district to your communities, regarding transportation impacts to both commuters and district buses.

Bellevue School District has advocated to the City to delay the project. If anyone in the Tyee community is interested in bringing concerns forward to either the BSD School Board or the City of Bellevue, their upcoming regular meeting information is below. Please note there is only one meeting scheduled for each governing body in the month of February.

Tyee: 6th Grade Camp – SAVE THE DATE! We’re excited to announce Tyee 6th graders will be experiencing 6th Grade Camp at Camp Orkila May 21-24. Please save the date on your calendar, more information will be coming from our 6th grade teachers in the next month!
Tyee: Arrival & Dismissal Reminders As the days become darker, and a new activity season begins, we wanted to share a few reminders for our families driving to school!

Arrival: Tyee is open at 8:00am every morning. We strongly encourage families driving to drop students off by 8:15am. Our families dropping students off between 7:55 and 8:05 face very little traffic! Earlier arrivals lessen traffic jams, and better ensure our buses to get in. Our building is open for students to eat breakfast, catch up on homework, and visit the library!

Dismissal: Students participating in after school clubs & activities must be picked up by 4:50pm. The Activity Bus will continue running through the year. It is very dark, so it is important families ensure students are picked up right after activities.

Tyee: Chinese Placement Assessments for next year In the coming 2024-25 school year, the Chinese 3 course will be available to Tyee students for the first time. Tyee students may register for the Chinese course of their choice. While the best pathway for new and novice learners is to take Chinese 1A, 1B, and 2 – our community has many students with heritage, native, and dual-language learning background in need of a different pathway. Beginning next year, students may register DIRECTLY for Chinese 1B, Chinese 2, or Chinese 3 course – skipping prior course requirements.

Current Tyee 6th & 7th grade students may request an in-person assessment for Chinese 1B, Chinese 2, or Chinese 3 with Ms. Sun Burford, our Tyee Chinese Teacher. The assessment will measure 5 components: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and typing.   If your student plans to take Chinese next year and would like to be considered for placement, please complete the form in the link, and we will contact you to arrange an assessment: https://forms.office.com/r/NGxTxnVbPc

BSD: New Language Opportunities for All Middle School Students Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, the Bellevue School District will offer additional world language course offerings in Hindi and Korean for middle school students in grades 6-8. Last December, the Procedure 2020 committee granted approval to include the two new language courses in the spring 2024 course catalog to survey student interest. Registration will determine whether the courses will be added to the master schedule and offered to students in the fall. Courses will be offered online through Digital Discovery and taught by Bellevue School District educators. The Hindi and Korean language course offerings are open to all middle school students regardless of language proficiency.

The MLL department is committed to prioritizing multilingualism and fostering social and cultural competency for all students. We achieve this by centering their cultural, racial, and linguistic identities, which we deeply value.
