Dear Cherry Crest Comm(Unity),

Over 30 years ago, on May 25th, 1989, the students and staff of Cherry Crest Elementary buried a time capsule with artifacts of their time and directions for the capsule to be opened in the year 2020, Cherry Crest’s 50th anniversary.  Unfortunately, COVID-19 waylaid our plans to open the capsule in 2020, but we are now back on track to unearth the time capsule during an event on Saturday March 26th at 4 pm in front of the school at Cherry Crest.

Our target audience for this event on March 26th includes Cherry Crest alumni from the late 80s and 90s, staff members past and present, and longtime neighborhood families.  If you, or anyone you know, fall into this category, please feel free to attend and/or share details for this event.  Light refreshments will be provided along with the opportunity to catch up with old friends and tour the school building (totally rebuilt in 2012).

As for our current students and families,  we plan to video tape the unearthing and assemble all the items from the capsule into a display for students, staff and families to view at our Walkathon on Friday April 1st.  Additionally, we are excited to create a new time capsule and install it in late May or early June.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
