Tyee: Smarter Balanced Testing (May 16-20) Tyee’s testing window for the state-required Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) will take place the week of May 16. Testing will take place in the morning hours on May 16 & 17 (Math) and May 19 & 20 (Language Arts). There will be no testing May 18.  Students who miss any sections will be attend make-ups sessions during the school day the following week. The SBA features both Computer Adaptive Tests (CATs) and Performance Tasks (PTs). CATs assess knowledge of concepts, while PTs assess problem-solving skill and written expression.

Students need to bring:

  • Their fully charged BSD Laptop
  • Wired Headphones/Earbuds.
    • Wireless headphones will not work for testing.
    • We have some extra earbuds for use, but encouraged students bring their own if possible.

On testing dates, students go to their first period class at 8:30, and then stay in that room for a testing period.  When testing ends, students then have a shortened 7-period schedule.

Tyee: Bus 51 Bus 51 is out of service for the week due to staffing. Bus 22 will pick up riders of Bus 51, but it will be roughly 30mins late every day, except Wednesday. BSD Transportation Department had sent messages through the parent portal. Rather than wait outside, students are welcome to attend Tutorial from 3:25-3:55, and our Office Staff will announce via the PA system when late buses arrive so students can be dismissed immediately.
Tyee: Student Deliveries Families: A reminder we have the capacity to accept deliveries for students for ONLY emergency items (such as medication). We set this new expectation in February and began enforcing on March 1 to lower the volume and frequency of student deliveries, and to align our practice with neighbors Somerset Elementary and Newport HS for consistency. We will continue reminding families of this should they attempt to drop off items. If you stop by, thank you for please working with our office staff who can help to explain the change.

It can be quite stressful to forget something for school, but thank you for working with us as we seek to keep students in class, teach them to remember their belongings, and support them with problem-solving when they forget.
