Emergency Preparedness at Cherry Crest. Last Wednesday morning, students and staff practiced an advanced lockdown drill (Active Threat). Classrooms were given the choice to practice one of two options (below) for what we call a Listening Movement Drill. This requires students to: STOP, LOOK, LISTEN to then ASSESS, DECIDE, and ACT. We are no longer practicing remaining silent in classrooms with our doors locked and lights out. Instead, we want students to learn our schoolwide expectations and practice the skill of following a leader to safety if danger inside the building occurs.

Schoolwide Expectations:

  1. Listen to adults
  2. Follow directions quickly and immediately
  3. Stay extremely quiet

Listening Movement Drill Options:

Goldfish Drill: Move like a school of fish and move as a group silently, while listening to directions immediately.

Snake Drill: Move by following a leader in a single file line; moving undetected and unseen to move to safety.

Students and their teachers reviewed a PowerPoint and/or engaged in important discussions about our drill to further understand procedures should they hear or see danger in our school building. During the drill, students pretended they heard a loud popping sound that came from our cafeteria. While practicing a goldfish or snake drill, students continued to practice the skill of assessing the situation and listening for sounds that may be unfamiliar or potentially dangerous.

Our next drill will take place on May 19th  when we will practice an evacuation drill.  Direct any questions to Assistant Principal Stedman ([email protected]).

K – 4 Parent Input requested for Class Placement.  Cherry Crest teachers and staff are making plans and beginning the  important task of creating classroom assignments for the 2022-23 school year.  Creating balanced classrooms where children will be successful is a complex task and we need parent cooperation to make it work.  Please take a few minutes to share your feedback by completing the 2022-23 Class Placement Input Form.

Thank you for completing this online survey for your returning Kindergarten – 4th grade child by Friday May 13th.

Volunteer Appreciation on May 20th.  As a small token of our appreciation, the Cherry Crest Staff invites our amazing Cherry Crest Comm(UNITY) volunteers to join us for a Volunteer Appreciation Coffee and Awards Ceremony in the café on Friday, May 20th at 8:15am

Whether you have helped in the classroom, library, lunchroom, playfield or on a field trip, we want to thank you!  Our program includes personalized messages of thanks from classroom staff, the presentation of the PTSA Golden Acorn Award and an opportunity for volunteers to provide input for your hopes, dreams and desires for family engagement in 2022/23.

To help us in planning, please register your intention to attend.  Volunteer Appreciation Coffee and Recognition RSVP

SchoolPool Campaign is Back. We are one of 17 schools participating in the Spring 2022 SchoolPool Campaign from Earth Day (April 22) to Bike to School Day (May 4)!

Bellevue SchoolPool is a program that encourages families and students to explore sustainable transportation options for their commute to and from school and alleviate congestion at drop-off and pick-up times and locations.

During the campaign students and families are encouraged to walk, bike, carpool or take the bus to and/or from school.

The Bellevue SchoolPool team will provide student incentives such as leaf-shaped post-in notes, and seeded bookmarks. In addition, students will enjoy fun ped-bike activity books, and flyer/scavenger hunt cards. Our school will receive safety supplies for up to $1,000.

For maps of walking and biking routes in our schools attendance area, and information about the school speed zones, visit the Routes to School web map. Click on our school to find a printable map for your route.

Now Enrolling Kindergarten students for the fall. Cherry Crest Elementary prepares all students to become life-long learners through inquiry, collaboration, and discovery.  Each student will feel a sense of belonging in our Comm(UNITY) while learning social-emotional and academic skills to be successful in an ever-changing and diverse society.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
