World Autism Acceptance Day: Today is World Autism Acceptance Day (formerly Autism Awareness Day). On April 2nd, many countries light up their landmarks and people wear blue to increase understanding and acceptance of people with Autism. 1 in 36 children in the U.S. has been identified as having ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). What exactly is ASD? Autism is a developmental disorder that affects how people communicate, interact and perceive the world. Autism is not a single condition but a spectrum that varies widely in severity and symptoms. Take a few minutes to think about classmates, friends or any family members who have ASD and we hope you have learned a little or will increase your awareness about ASD.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
