Good Evening Tyee Families!

Hard to believe we are arriving at the end of September this week!  Our teachers have been working hard to prepare presentations for Curriculum Night (see info below). Proud to share with our community that despite the challenges that come with remote learning, Tyee continues to lead all Bellevue middle schools in both daily attendance and student engagement in Microsoft Teams each week. We are so proud to be a part of this community!

Tyee: Curriculum Night on Thursday, October 1

This year’s Curriculum Night event will look quite different than it has in the past. For one, we are not able to open the school up for our general sessions or classroom visits. To ensure all families are able to access the information, schools across Bellevue School District will be utilizing a Live Event for the General Session, and pre-recorded videos from our Teachers as classroom presentations.

General Session (6:00-6:30pm). This will be a live event hosted over Microsoft Teams. Our Principal and Assistant Principals will provide an overview of Tyee Middle School, its programs, priorities and goals. Following this will be a brief overview of how to access the classroom presentations.  This session will be recorded and e-mailed out to all families for viewing later, along with a Survey to submit follow-up questions for Administrators and Teachers.

Link to the General Session (10/1 at 6:00pm) will be sent out by Tuesday, September 29! (we’re experiencing an outage with Teams this evening)

Classroom Presentation Videos (available by 6:30pm). Teachers have recorded and uploaded videos into their Class Teams. To ensure more families have common access, the student BSD laptop may be used to find these video presentations.  Instructions to watch classroom presentation videos: click here.  The videos will be available for viewing from October 1, to Thursday, October 8, so families have plenty of time to view them. Teachers have all been asked to communicate to their classes how to access the videos, and their contact info can be found in the link above to the Staff directory.

BSD: Social Emotional Learning Survey for Students  & Opt-Out link

Student Well-being is a priority to the Bellevue School District. We want to foster and promote healthy social-emotional skills for all our students so they can learn and thrive. We have been partnering with Panorama Education over the past few years to help schools and our district learn about students’ thoughts around school climate and provide teacher feedback.

In order to learn more about student experiences, we will be asking for your child’s feedback using the Panorama Social Emotional Learning Survey. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a process through which individuals build awareness and skills in managing emotions, setting goals, establishing relationships, and making responsible decisions that support success in school and in life. Students in grades 3-12 will be asked to complete the Panorama SEL online survey during the school day in early October.

The survey will ask students to self-reflect on their own social and emotional skills. The questions that will be asked are below this letter. Students in grades 6-12 will complete the survey between October 6-8. The directions and sharing the “Why- this is important”  will be shared during a live session; however, the survey itself does not need to be conducted during synchronous time and we will advise students when they should complete it.

Opt-Out: Families that do not want their student to participate can complete a form which is linked in the family community letter. If a family would like to opt out multiple students, they will need to complete the form multiple times. Families will have until Friday Oct 2 to complete the form. This will be communicated to our school contact.  Link to Opt Out: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=OUFKmQZ8HkmAmHkAbVdd4BAz9aAyQm9EnYuT05-_pOlUQzY0SE5PT0ZGMlVUODJYOEFGS01XVTJMUy4u

Tyee: Attendance Updates We appreciate you all helping your students attend their live classes every morning, including checking for work and updates in their class Teams on Wednesdays.   Attendance is taken daily.   Also, if you are checking attendance in ParentVue and you see a green check mark, that means your student DID NOT attend class.  You can click the green circle to see details of the absence.  Currently all “RLAs” (Remote Learning Absence) codes are excused. Unexcused absences will begin being recorded after October 6 and we will require a parent or staff e-mail/note to excuse them.  If you have questions,  please feel free to email us: [email protected]
