Signs of Suicide (SOS) Parent Discussion Sessions (Spanish Speakers Session)
Community Mental Health Forums return for the 2021 school year. For the third consecutive year, the Family Engagement office in partnership with BSD Counseling, Mental Health Assistance Teams and community mental-health partners will offer families an opportunity to support the well-being of their students. The first session for this year informs families about Signs of Suicide or SOS.
SOS is an evidence-based youth suicide prevention program that teaches students how to identify signs of depression and suicide in themselves and others. The goal of the program is to decrease suicide and suicide attempts by increasing knowledge and changing attitudes about depression, suicide, and mental health. In addition, SOS provides materials that support families and communities to recognize at-risk students and take appropriate action.
Small group discussion sessions are designed for families of students in grades 6-12 and provide an opportunity to ask detailed questions about depression, suicide, and mental health directly with district counselors. Please follow the links to register, submit questions, and attend sessions. Small group sessions will not be recorded. Pre-event registration is recommended.

Main Office Opens
Woodridge Elementary’s Main Office will be open to the public on August 23rd from 9-3:30 PM. When on campus, the following are required, per the Washington Department of Health’s Requirements for K-12 Schools:
- Universal masking (universal masking means that face coverings are required to be worn by all
individuals, regardless of vaccination status.) - All school personnel, volunteers, visitors, and students must wear cloth face coverings, or an acceptable alternative (e.g., surgical mask or clear face shield with a drape), at school when indoors in accordance with the Secretary of Health’s Mask Order.
- Physical distancing at a minimum of 3 feet.
- Main Office access only, until further approved per BSD Board Policies for visitors and/or volunteers. (More information on this will be forthcoming from BSD’s Central Office Communication Department).
Kindergarten Readiness Assessments
The intent of this time is for the kindergarten teachers to be able to take time, prior to school starting, to assess each child on their beginning kindergarten skills & readiness, in order to be able to create balanced classrooms. You will receive an email a few days prior, asking you to sign up for a time slot.
