Today is Tuesday, March 28th.

Stand for the pledge of allegiance Vikings (wait 3 seconds)

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. (wait 3 seconds)

We pause to acknowledge that Odle Middle School resides on the traditional and occupied land of the Coast Salish Peoples – past, present, and future. We honor their connection to the region, pay respect to Coast Salish Elders past and present, and stand in solidarity through their struggles.

March is Women’s History Month! Harriet Tubman, born Araminta Ross, was born into slavery, and her story could have ended there. Instead, she persisted, escaping from slavery & becoming the most famous “conductor” on the Underground Railroad. She risked her life many times to lead countless enslaved people to freedom, including her family, friends, and strangers. Every single person she led to freedom arrived safely. She started her first rescue mission in December of 1850. There is a famous quote from her: “I should fight for my liberty as long as my strength lasted.”

Oh, Vikings, many need this reminder- You are to select ONE supervised location during tutorial/study zone/gym. This includes selecting ONE location for tutorial, you are not to roam from tutorial to tutorial to study zone to gym…. on & on. If you enter after 3:35pm, teachers may tell you to leave their room & refuse to sign your after school activity pass. Make your ONE choice & get there quickly- it is only 25 minutes!

Do you have fines? More than half of Odle students do. Lists have been posted on the trophy case in the commons, and the class wall outside the library. If you see your student ID number on the list, you have fees or fines on your account. Payments can be made online or in the front office. Students with fines at the end of the year won’t be able to pick up their yearbook. If you still have fines when you go to high school, you won’t be allowed to attend Homecoming or compete in High School sports. Graduates with fines are not allowed to participate in graduation or pick up their diploma. Let us help you clear your account now, and come see the front office if you have questions.

A new club has started at Odle. For all students interested in psychology, please join the Research Psychology club every Thursday in room 117 (Ms. Iliescu’s Room). We will explore fun psychological phenomena and help you understand the brain in a new way. If you have any questions, ask Mrs. Iliescu.

Oh, we know the snack bar & vending machine are so very tempting, however, they are only to be visited during your assigned lunch! If you choose to visit them when you should be in class, consequences such as lunch detention may be issued. Pack a snack, eat during your assigned meals, & choose wisely, Vikings!

Please congratulate the Odle Jazz Band and Jazz Club for outstanding performances this past Saturday at the Liberty Jazz Festival in Spanaway, Washington. The adjudicators were very complimentary to both groups, comparing their polished playing, great sense of time and attention to detail to high school groups and praised them for their mature, blended sound. Also, a special congratulations to: Noam Egozi, Ozzie Kato, Liam Ko, Clare Lee, Andrew Liang, Lizzie Silva-Carratero and Anay Tiwari for their outstanding solo work at the festival, which was also praised by the judges. Great job, everybody!

Today’s clubs are Dance Club in room 171, and Literature Club in room 205.

Today’s lunch is chicken katsu sandwich with baked fries.

Have a great day, everyone!

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
