Congratulations to the Odle 6th grade Concert Band and 6th grade Debut Orchestra for competing at the World Strides Seattle Music Festival. Over the weekend, Concert Band and Debut Orchestra competed amongst 26 school groups from out-of-state and around the state. Odle was the ONLY middle school competing amongst high school bands, choirs, and orchestras. Odle came back with Gold ratings for both band and orchestra; the highest standard available. The Band and Orchestra received the sweepstakes trophy, where the top two scores of a school were combined and ranked against other competing schools with two or more groups. Only one sweepstakes award is given out in the instrumental category, and Odle beat out all other bands and orchestras. For the second year in a row, Odle Middle School brought back the “Spirit of Seattle” Award. An award given to only one school in the entire festival based on observed behavior, respect, leadership, and performance etiquette. Prior to last year, the Bellevue School Schools received this award 13 years ago. The 6th Grade Orchestra achieved such a high score in the Outstanding Orchestra category, that it was announced that we were beaten by a fraction of a point for first place. It was an honor to joust with a high school Chamber Orchestra. Well done Debut and Mr. Chang! The 6th Grade Band came through with the highest scoring band of the festival and received the Outstanding Band award. It was an amazing feat for our 6th grade students to beat out every high school band. The judges gushed with positive comments. Congratulations, Concert Band and Mr. Roberts! Odle Concert and Debut also received the Adjudicator’s Award. Only one trophy given to a group with 92 out of 100 or higher for instrumental groups and 95 or higher for choirs to qualify. Another brilliant show, Odle Music Department! To end the evening awards, both Band and Orchestra were exclusively invited to audition for performances at Chicago Orchestra Hall, Nashville, San Fransisco Davies Symphony Hall, or New York’s Carnegie Hall. Congratulations to both groups. Go Vikings!

Attention ALL Odle students: Your voice matters! The BSD Reimagining Middle Schools Steering Committee has been working hard all year to make the middle school experience better for all students in our District. Before final recommendations are made, we want to know your opinions of the ideas we developed. In your math class, sometime between Tuesday, April 25, 2023 and Tuesday, May 2, 2023, you will have an opportunity to share your opinions through a survey you will complete after you watch a short video explaining four different ideas. This should take about 15 minutes. You will find a small poster outside your math class and near the Odle office with more information about this important opportunity. We look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for your time and consideration
