One of the most noticeable things our PTSA does is fund valuable enrichments for our students at school.  More than $70,000 per year comes from our PTSA.

Less obvious, but more important, is the opportunity for you to connect to our school community. 

We know that students do better when they feel that they belong to our community. That happens because learning requires some vulnerability for genuine growth.

Feeling they belong helps students feel safe with that vulnerability. And although teens need to feel they’re becoming independent, they also feel safer when family is close enough to offer support as needed.

The PTSA gives family that opportunity to stay within reach while allowing independence. Our adult connections to the school allow our students to feel safe as they take the risks that ultimately reward them with growth, confidence, and resilience.

So join our PTSA as a member, but also join PTSA activity, including:

• Volunteer at the Ski Swap (it’s fun; really!). Meet other adults, meet more of our students, maybe go home knowing a new friend.
• Volunteer for events or a working group. For example, we could use someone who’s a wiz with websites.
• Attend a general meeting. We hold them several times a year and generally have a special guest. You’ll see them announced in this newsletter.
• Contribute to Classroom Bucks as part of our Curriculum Night. This special fund goes directly to Classroom Enrichment Grants for Newport teachers. Watch this video to hear teachers talk about these grants.

Your student can join as well. Although all our students are honorary members and welcome to participate, only registered student members can vote and help govern our organization.
