For Week of April. 29, 2024

Dear Parents/Families,

Photo/video consent reminder:

It is exciting to see our students shine at school, special events, and PTSA activities. Out of respect for families who choose to keep their child’s image private and not have it on social media or used for marketing or promotion of any kind, we respectfully ask that parents refrain from taking pictures or videos of any students other than their own when attending school-related events including but not limited to class parties, field trips, assemblies, special events of any kind – at or about school. Our teachers and school staff can capture group photos to share after they have verified the photo release for their students. What we don’t want to happen is students’ photo/videos got posted on social media without their own parents/guardian’s permission. Thank you for your cooperation.

For Week of Feb. 26, 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As the Lunar New Year approaches, we are excited to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Dragon! This auspicious year symbolizes power, courage, and good fortune, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and share in the rich traditions that make this festival so special.

We invite you and your family to join in the celebrations, whether it’s by trying out traditional recipes, sharing stories, or participating in any of the Lunar New Year activities we had planned with PTSA’s leadership. We hope to see you this Sunday 2/11 from noon to 2pm for our Jing Mei Lunar New Year Carnival organized our amazing PTSA! If you have time to volunteer and join the morning recess for lunar new year celebrations (We have activities for all Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Dragon dance on Wednesdays for the month of February!), please check out parentsquare: https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/28758084?school_id=316 (See the two pics from our LNY recess fun!)

Let’s embrace the spirit of the Dragon by spreading positivity, strength, and harmony throughout our community. Wishing you and your loved ones a prosperous and joyful Lunar New Year!

Parking Lot Reminder: A review of our parking and drive-through for arrival and dismissal was conducted.  The feedback provided was that cars cannot be parked along the red fire lane.  We know parking is a challenge, but there is plenty of parking across the street.  Please also be aware that parking in a non-designated parking spot, or in a handicap spot, even just to run inside to drop off your student, is still not appropriate.  We are asking that everyone respect the designated handicap parking spots and take advantage of the parking across the street as needed so as to avoid the police department needing to come here to monitor and ticket individuals.  Please watch the following video to be aware of the different places you can park. Jing Mei Parking and Drive Through

Pre-School Update: As previously mentioned, PreK will now only be for the school day.  We have been working to partner Boys and Girls Club to provide before and after school care K-5, however, they are unable to do so for preschool.  Therefore, Right at Schools will now provide before and after school care for Preschool at Jing Mei. The plan is to provide before school care from 7:00 till school starts and after school care till 6:00.  More information will be provided once we finalize the plans.

(Repeated reminder) Racial, Equity, and Inclusion Meeting 2/15: You are invited to join our Racial, Equity, and Inclusion Team meeting on 2/15 (REI Team). For this meeting, we will use small group setting to get to know you and your family and plan actions with feedbacks.

Please RSVP here: Microsoft Forms (If you cannot make it to either or online option but still want to provide your input for our REI team, please feel free to fill out the last question at the form.)

Thank you for joining our time for our Principal Tea this week.

Parentsquare: https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/28758084?school_id=316

Jing Mei Parking and Drive Through

For Week of Feb. 12, 2024

For Week of Jan. 29, 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thanks to Mag, our PTSA Hospitality Director along with parent volunteers for helping us decorate the school with festive lanterns and streamers on Friday, our school is so ready to welcome the new year of dragon.

Thank you for over 30 parents/guardians’ participation for the January Principal Tea on the topic of Social Emotional Learning and emotion regulation Support on Thursday 1/25/2024.

Here is the PPT Dr. Taylor presented:  Jing Mei Emotion Regulation.pdf

You can see the RULER resource below:

Parent’s Guide to RULER (RULER is a social emotional learning curriculum we use for 3rd to 5th grade)

Charter Overview The Charter is the first piece of RULER that is introduced in the classroom. Its purpose is to create a positive culture and climate. It represents a collective agreed-upon norms for how everyone would like to be treated. There are three key questions to help guide this discussion and creation of this document.

1. How do we want to feel in school each day?

2. What will we do to have these feelings consistently and create a positive learning environment?

3. How will we prevent and manage conflict and unwanted feelings?

Mood Meter Overview The Mood Meter allows students to be aware of their emotions and gives them the vocabulary to identify how they feel. It asks students to recognize how they’re feeling.

Meta-Moment Overview A Meta-Moment provides students with a process for how to respond to their emotional situations along with strategies that will help support them to be their best self.

Blueprint Overview If a conflict does arise, a Blueprint supports the development of empathy and conflict resolution by coming up with the steps to resolving the conflict.

Sincerely,

Ms. Tan and Mr. Shelton

Jing Mei Emotion Regulation.pdf

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for another wonderful week of support. Here are some important timely updates:

  1. Handicap Parking: Please respect the usage for handicap parking spots in our school parking for people who has the handicap parking permit.  We will have staff outside to ask you to leave those spots if you do not have a handicap parking pass.
  2. Pickup Lane: the right lane around the drive loop is for parents who are remaining in their car to drive through and pick up students. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THIS LANE.  We are still having some people park in the right lane around the loops causing a traffic jam.  We know it is hard to find parking at times, but please park across the street if you cannot find a parking space at school parking.
  3. Driving Speed: Please be mindful of your speed.  We have had some cars driving too fast.  This is especially dangerous around a curve when you may not see parents and children crossing to the parking lot.
  4. You are invited to join the 4th Grade Social Studies Textbook Adoption Committee. This year we are in the process of replacing the previous textbook, Washington Our Home, with a new book for 4th grade social studies. This year we are engaging in experimental use of The State We’re In: Washington and a committee will review feedback and make a recommendation regarding adoption of the new book. For the Week of 9/11/2023

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you so much for your wonderful support in the past few days as we are learning about the operational side of our new building. Here are some reminders about arrival/dismissal.

  • Arrival and dismissal:

The lane (highlighted in red) along the right side of the circular drive is for parents who are picking up their students by car.  Please do not park and leave your car unattended in this lane. You may park and wait in your in this lane but when dismissal starts, be ready to move your car along in the line.

Unattended cars will create traffic jams as well as safety issues, so if you are in the righthand lane, please stay in your car to be able to move forward once dismissal begins. The first couple of days we have had unattended cars in the righthand lane, forcing parents to drive along the left lane and unintentionally cut other drivers off.   By not leaving car unattended in the righthand lane, we will have a the traffic will flow better and we won’t have the two lanes trying to merge into one.

If you need to park, there are spaces in front of the building as well as parking across the street at WISC or the Wilburton Hill park.

  • Boys and Girls Club (BGC) Drop off and Pick-Up: If you are doing BGC for before/afterschool care, please watch this video:  Boys and Girl Club Routine
