• This question presents new territory for everyone in education. We honestly don’t have all the answers, but we can recommend factors to consider:
    • The College Board already has made changes to college admittance testing. Be aware that AP subject exams may change.
    • How did your student perform this year? Your student can ask their teachers for input on this.
      • Teachers cut course material to delete enrichment lessons and laser focus on only the required standards for the course.
      • Students covered more in less time in these courses.
      • A D grade that your student changed to a Pass grade does not indicate mastery of course material. Your student should seek advice from teachers.
      • Students who earned a C grade also may need to consider that there are gaps in their mastery and talk to their teachers. Students could work over the summer to fill in, take a course at Bellevue College, etc.
    • Curriculum and lesson planning has been adjusted in course sequences so that students have an opportunity to review learning from the prior course.
    • There will be some gaps, but over time, most students can likely bridge them. Your student should consider the number of courses they choose that may require extra work to fill those gaps. Use the planning tools we provide to assess time. (See the last question above.)
  • Your student should begin by emailing their current teacher and articulating their concerns. Be as specific as possible. The teacher will advise your student about their current progress, their study skills, the supports available, etc. to help your student, you, and your counselor make a good choice.
The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
