In order to support our students with the college application process, particularly our seniors, Bellevue School District will offer the SAT during the regular school day on Thursday, October 28. Seniors and juniors will have the opportunity to take the test on this day. There will be no cost to students taking the SAT on October 28.

All 11th and 12th grade students will be automatically registered to take the SAT on October 28 unless they communicate their plans via the attached survey to participate in a different option on that day (on and off-campus opportunities).  Some of those options are facilitated by school staff (ASVAB, college essay writing, resume writing workshop, etc.).  Some of the options are student driven (internship, job shadowing, college visit, etc.).

No later than Friday, September 17th, a link to a Microsoft form will be sent via BSD e-mail to all 11th and 12th grade students. Students should complete the form only if they do NOT wish to take the SAT on October 28. If students’ plans change and they want to no longer participate in one of the different options and instead take the SAT, by October 15th they may go back into the form and indicate they now want to take the SAT.  Changes after that date may not be able to be accommodated.  Student responses on the form will be used to prioritize school-facilitated activities on October 28th for those 11th and 12th graders opting out of the school-day SAT.

One alternate activity available on October 28 to all 11th and 12th grade students who do not wish to take the SAT is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB. The ASVAB exam is part of the Career Exploration Program. The ASVAB is an aptitude test that estimates a student’s capacity for academic and vocational endeavors.  Four sections of the ASVAB exam make up the Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT). These sections are Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC) and Word Knowledge (WK). The score on the AFQT is reported as a percentile score. This score can be used to meet the Math and English Language Arts assessment requirements for graduation. The minimum score to meet the requirement is 31.  ASVAB scores will not be provided to the military by Bellevue School District. If students are interested in pursuing a career in the military, they can submit their ASVAB scores. Students can register to take the ASVAB on the Microsoft Form.

If students are unsure if they need to take the SAT, they should consult with their school counselor. Below are some things to consider.

  • Students typically take the SAT in Spring of their 11th grade year and fall of their 12th grade year.
  • BSD will host the Saturday SAT on behalf of the College Board at their Bellevue High School testing site on March 12, May 7 and June 4. BSD families of 11th grade students will get an e-mail notification when these test dates are open for registration on the College Board website.
  • Qualifying SAT scores (Math- 430 and English- 410) will meet the Graduation Pathway requirement for graduation.
  • While many colleges and universities suspended their SAT and ACT testing requirement for Fall of 2021 and 2022 admissions, some colleges and universities continue to require the SAT or ACT and/or allow students the opportunity to utilize these scores in the application review process.
  • Roughly two-thirds of undergraduate institutions will not require SAT or ACT scores during the Fall 2022 admissions.
