Welcome!

Please check out the resources and services below to help you transition successfully to Sammamish High School. For a link to the Bellevue School District MLL Resources, please click here. (link: https://bsd405.org/programs/ell/)

Registration and WELPA: During initial registration, we will provide students who speak a first language other than English the Washington English Language Proficiency Assessment (WELPA) to determine their language proficiency. Based on the WELPA results and grade level, students are provided varying levels of English language support.

Important Notes for Colleges/Universities: We recommend ELL students to achieve a high level of academic English proficiency prior to attending their first year of college so that they may have a successful transition to college. You must have 3 years of mainstream English classes to meet the college entrance requirements.

World Language Competency Credit: ELLs and Newcomers may earn up to four credits by showing their proficiency in the language that they already know. For more information, please see the Bellevue School District World Language Competency Website (link: https://bsd405.org/departments/curriculum/competency-credits/) or see your school counselor.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
