students walking into school in unorganized line

The Eastgate/Spiritridge Community Team met in person Wednesday and discussed the topic of a future Mascot. To honor both communities coming together the team proposed to select a new Mascot for the future. Rather than rush this process, we plan to start next year without an identified mascot and focus on CommUNITY – working to build unity, inclusion, and collaboration. The Team is focused on ensuring voices from students, staff and families of both communities are considered in this process. Students will be an integral part of the plan, beginning with helping to design a T-Shirt Logo for the CommUNITY theme for next year. Eastgate and Spiritridge students enrolled to attend Spiritridge next year, will have the opportunity to submit their idea for a T-Shirt Design aligning with the theme of CommUNITY.

The Community Team will create a plan and process in the Fall to engage students, staff, and families in selecting a Mascot for Spiritridge. This will be done in a respectful and collaborative manner that elevates student voice as the priority. Details of this plan and process are being determined and will be shared in the Fall.

Woodridge and Spiritridge AL staff met on April 26, for activities to get to know each other. They also started the work of coming together as the 2023-2024 Woodridge school teachers.  Everyone enjoyed connecting and reconnecting with old and new colleagues and appreciated the intentional time to start building a new learning community.

  • Facilities and support staff visited Woodridge with Principal Grigsby to make sure they are all aware of updates to the building to support the transition of students to the school.
  • The Woodridge Carnival took place Wednesday, May 3, and the tour of Woodridge took place Thursday, May 4. Check back next week for an update about how both events went.

Now for a couple of updates from the District.  The open transfer process for students attending consolidated schools is now complete and all families have been notified of their child’s placement for the 2023-24 school year.  Families who chose to open transfer to a school other than their new “home” school can always choose to return to their neighborhood school at any time.  Schools appreciate early decisions whenever possible, as it impacts teacher assignments and grade level configurations.  Please feel free to reach out to your principal if you have any questions.
