Homeless and Foster Care Services

We provide educational services for students that are homeless and children and youth who are part of the Foster Care system. Students that are homeless are identified by the federal McKinney-Vento homeless law as those who, as part of a family or living alone, lack a fixed, safe, stable and adequate housing such as living in cars, motels, shelters, someone else’s home, transitional housing or similar settings.

The Right to Transportation

Did you know Washington students who are experiencing homelessness have a right to receive transportation services to their school of origin? Check out this video from Columbia Legal Services featuring some of our Bellevue School District staff members to learn more about legal and social supports.

The Bellevue School District acknowledges that we learn, work, live and gather on the Indigenous Land of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here, since time immemorial.
